maybe this should be in the nitrous forum... but hasnt anyone ever tried this? oxygen is safer than nitrous (breathable), cheaper, easier to get your hands on..... and if you spray the right amount of fuel in (like any nitrous kit), it seems like it would get it burning even more readily than nitrous. (much stonger of an oxidizer, i believe) oh well.. any comments welcome..
..i was gonna say the same thing, but shifted be me to it.
O2 burns super fast and very hot, and is more volatile than people think. i worked in demolition for about a year, and our hazmat course explained that pure o2 is a very big risk. im sure it'd burn up your block real quick. but in theory, a good idea...
...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.
yeah.. probably... but in theory you could use a very small amount.. would last longer than a tank of nitrous for sure
And you use oxygen in gas welding... I've worked with it many times and I wouldn't say its THAT volatile
haha maybe i will someday.... just put a regulator on the O2 to keep it down at a few psi at first and use my wideband to make sure im running rich... then slowly increase pressure till i get a good ratio. if i used the samefuel jet for a 50 shot of nitrous and increased oxygen pressure till it was pretty much stoich. balanced, i dont see any real problems. ill try it someday when im ready to get rid of the engine.
a perfect example of this is the movie armageddon when they fill the ships up with liquid o2....and poor affleck almost didn't make it.
its not THAT bad... its not like if you have a tiny spark and blow oxygen on it it will burst into huge flames
He's right pure o2 or liquid o2 as it is on my ship is more volatile than
most of the weapons we have onboard. I would think twice. Blow
on hose in the wrong spot and you may have a very ugly situation.
PROPANE.

Has anyone ever modded a SCUBA tank filled with Nitrox?? HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Heh... ever watch a wheelchair-bound senior who's smoking, while sucking back on pure oxygen?? That cigarette crackles pretty damn good.
It'll burn up yer engine quicker than a no-fuel uber-lean nitrous shot would.

also pure oxygen mixed with motor oil equals very bad things to i.e. big boom
04 sunfire auto, mid 15's n/a, and still going
I'm a welder / fabricator, and work with oxy-propane torches on a regular basis. I know what oxygen does, and injecting pure oxygen into the combustion chamber, even in small amounts will blow through any hot spots you have in there. Those hot spots include the spark plug ground strap, and any exposed edges of the piston, or in other words, the entire circumference, and the edges of the valve reliefs. All these areas are so hot under WOT loads that the introduction of pure, non-nitrogen buffered oxygen, would be much like pulling the lever on a cutting torch once the steel is already red hot. you WILL melt holes right through your nice, soft, aluminum pistons. I've already seen people experiment with this (and advised them not to waste their time) and the pistons come back out of the engine closely resembling mashed potatoes. But if you really want to try it, go ahead. Just be sure to post pics later, lol!

if someone DOES plan to do this cause they just didnt wanna listen, or for whatever reasons...ex girlfriends car, etc...
please...do videotape the install and performance
this actually reminds me of a drunk idea i had, i thought of plumbing an air line to the intake plenum and have the other end going to a shop air tank.... man, that was a lot of schlitz.

I'll give a story about oxy and an engine. First hand experience no less.
Once upon a time at a car dealership, we had to start some junker trade in cars that were kept "around the back." The temps were around -40 deg F on that day in Montana, and there were a few cars which just didn't want to start. So we towed them into the shop to warm up, something that usually took around an hour. During this time we usually pulled the plugs, cleaned all the cold, wet fuel off them, reinstalled them, and charged or replaced the battery.
Not wanting to wait, or r&r plugs in a coooold engine, and being a creative guy, I decided to see if I could speed things along with a little Oxy from the torch. I placed the torch tip into the carb, then thought a little about what I was about to do. I was going to introduce the most agressive oxidizer I could get into a fuel rich environment, then add heat and pressure from compression, then add a spark. Not a really good idea. So I decided to try it first without the spark. I disconnected the power wire from the coil, opened the oxy valve only slightly, and cranked the engine. It knocked and banged and rattled... and started!
The metal of the engine was probably in the range of -25 deg at that time (there was frost forming on the outside of the intake manifold) and the gasoline in the tank and carb were so cold that they wouldn't light when a match was applied... and the engine was running without spark! And let me tell you, it sounded like each and every one of those connecting rods was going to come out of that engine and make exit holes in the wall if things continued for much longer. I shut the car down. I'd actually made enough heat in that 45 or so seconds that the engine ran to start it up normally on gasoline and spark and drive it away. Whie the service manager thought I was really good at starting cold engines, I just felt lucky that the intake manifold or cylinder head hadn't popped while I was playing that silly game.
That oxygen has some powerful mojo.
