..it has enough oil, yes?

I dunno, I know very little about trannies. I DO know that my isuzu tranny has been replaced once, and needs to be replaced again, lol, they do not take abuse well. my 2nd and third always grind. good luck, though.

how can one help if you dont even post what tranny.

both automatics and manuals have shafts and gears, and really you can shift both, as some do shift autos, although shouldnt if not built for it.

i assume you mean manual.

do you have the manual for it? most things internal like that run off of precision so a few ten thousandths can be the difference in tolerances.

doooooood!

from the day you bought it? if it was bought new you def should have went under warranty for it to be fixed... even used.

and you really shouldnt be working on anything that integral without a manual.

gm shop manuals are available either through GM, which also have the transmission listed in the second half of the 2 part manuals.

gm has a shop manual made the same year the car is out. 120$ from the dealer, or

the part prob was faulty, but now considering you;ve took things apart, i really cant say what you;ve done or didnt do that you should have.

ALWAYS have a manual when working on your car dude. ALWAYS, you need to know the torque specs and etc. its not fly by night like installing an amp or s strut brace.....

g'luck

ok makes more sense now.....

best i can tell you is to pick up a manual on it.... see what you can find, part of me wants to say synchros, but i;m still learning on how manuals work in precision-wise detail. if it were automatic, i would say one of the plates have a bit much space in there....or could look up some fixes.

not sure how your time table is, or if you have any autoyards close by, but is getting a used tranny out of your time frame needs, and or price range?

i can try and help from here, find some auto yards in your state and give you a list and some prices, or you can check on car-part.com

or check ebay for 2000 cav/sunfire service manuals.

another questions, do any of the gears look damaged or worn?

these links might also help as well...

several reasons no one answered

you didnt give enough info

your typing isnt the best , same with your speeling

the getrag is the 00-up trans

the older MUNCIE/getrag is a older trans

most people around here arent the best transmission techs

from what your describing , its best to let a pro deal with your trans issues

even with all the experence ive got , id take mine to a specialist

agree with jdm cav... i in now way am skilled in it besides the little stuff i have learned from my rebuild and reading on here.

check with a local transmission place and see what they charge for diagnosis. the tranny is out of the car (i assume since you say you took it apart) so it might only be a few hundred or less, considering they dont have to install and extract.

worth getting a few pro opinions from places.

g'luck with it

ok so i agree.. i am sorry for the spelling. i am from granite city il. near stl misouri. you say you want more info. ok here it is.. i bought the car 3 months ago from a friend of mine. when i bought it it already had second gear gone in it. he said it needed syncros. i said ok. i had blown the engine up. and then my other car had quit running as well last night. so while my engine for the cavi is still in prosece of getting built i bought a low mile junkyard engine to put in. the enginr grtyting built will take a few months do to the drysump i am putting on and interally balanceing it. but the trany will not drive in second. you haft to pull really hard to get it to even click in when down shifting. but when you put your foot on the gas it clang clangs again. we took it apart. and the syncros are in pefecrt condition. same as the gears. but the magnet inside the houseing was the only thing that had looked as if it was chewed up. the trany is out of a 2000 cavi 2.4 its the MUNCIE/getrag and i was told very expensive to find parts for. but there all interchangable on the interals.. so if ne one had had this same prob is what i had asked and if they fixed it...

is this clear enough for you!!!!!!!!!!

thank you sean

if it wont hold it self then the scyncros are shot , or something related to them is bad

i know for a brand new trans they were about 1200.00 last time i checked

my best would be to have a trans guy look it over

and the 00 up are just getrags , only the older 1's were refered to as muncie/getrags

I had this same problem with my 02 trans, w/ about 11k miles on it.

Turned out a plastic sleeve on the shift fork broke, making it imposible to shift into 2nd correctly, I had to JAM it into gear.

The service manuals wont have 5 speed information in it....... they have a seperate manual for them. I had to print the info off of the GM Dealer World web site (I was a tech @ GM)

I have all the print outs on how to disassemble the trans.... but your best bet is to take it to a GM dealer, or a Trans shop.

gm dealership, or gm parts direct or maybe local auto parts stores...

check around.

the 00-up getrags are the F23 , its cast into the case

if you look at the case of the trans , like you are looking down from the hood , you would be able to see it

you might want talk to speedracerZ about the shift for deal
