I was just curious if anyone has ever used a rev-limiter when launching a 2200 motor at the track. I have a dis 2 (#6212) that I can set to whatever launch rpm I want, but I'm not sure if the ecu is gonna freak out and start throwing camshaft/crankshaft codes because the rotations aren't what the ecu thinks they "should" be.
So has anyone done this, and if so any kind of problems I need to know about??

its possible that the stock would set a missfire code from it , since its not the computer that is not doing the rpm cut out
but even with the msd your limited by other variables on launch rpm , stall speed of the tq converter is the biggest
on a 5spd it would keep you from smoking the tires to hard off the line , but would take alot of practice to get used to , and give you a ideal setting range , but that will varry from night to night , and the track prep and conditions
For a 5 speend car , like yours, place a micro switch activated by the clutch pedal. Something similar to a nitrous WOT switch, etc.
The drag racing term for "launch control" is "two step".
With a 6212 I assume you have a lap top and can easily tune for track conditions, so no worries, bring it along and adjust RPM accordingly.
Once you get it tweaked to the correct RPM, you will be one happy racer.
Two steps on five speed cars make staging and launching so much easier to focus on the tree. You just light the stage bulb, mat the throttle, wait for the bottom yellow bullb (or your point on the tree), and dump the clutch.
You no longer have a reason to look at the tach for launch, the MSD takes care of it for you. There's no way I could or would ever bracket race a manual car without one.
It may throw a mis fire code, but the launch control is harmless. It basically skip sparks the ignition to maintain an RPM..
We've used them in our drag cars for years.

i've seen some DSM guys running what they call a stutter box, which they can set a rev limiter for say 3500 RPMs to launch and then switch it off. but i don't know if our cars are compatible with that at all.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
