ok so heres the deal there has been some talk about porting the eco intake manifold to match the head. the problem was that no one really left any good instructions or a decent how to could some one throw something together. if you dont do it for me do it for the cat. thankx guys.

heres a quick review...
at all times be aware of the amount of material you remove and how thick the walls between things are...you can ruin your manifold ny cutting too much and breaking into another area...
1) open intake runner openings to 50mm wide and 32mm tall. you can go slightly larger but that will get you very close to the head size
2)blend the new opening into the rest of the runner/port as far as you can reach.
3)the throttle body opening has a taper from 60mm at the top to 55mm at the bottom. its not a perfect circle though so watch out. this can be opened to about 57mm at the bottom.
4) blend TB opening from top to bottom restoring the taper(only wider than stock now)
5) on either side of the lower TB area there are ribs in the molding that restrict flow to cylinders 1&4...remove these ribs.
essentially thats it...anyone feel free to add, delete or clarify things as you deem needed...

is this gonna be a good gain from doing it, or is it gonna be somethign that you can hardly feel

well if I am correct with the amout of people that Ive talked to so far it seems like it's in the ball park from any where to 10 to 20 HP so should be able to feel the gains. 1 quick Q I can use the same gasket that comes with it?

OK OK CHILDREN...heres the srt8 skinny on this. IT WORKS. you will feel a gain from it, however it also changes the powerband. it makes more mid and high RPM power. the car will pull harder from around 2500-3000 rpm (depending on other mods) to around 6300 rpm. as far as gains...dont expect 20hp. it will give about as much as a good intake or exhaust system will. say maybe 5-10. it will add power to a otherwise stock car, but the more mods you have the more you will benefit from it.

to answer TJ Watson...what we are doing exactly is matching the runner outlets in the intake manifold to the ports in the cylinder head. the manifold openings are smaller than the head and that hurts mid and upper rpm power. as far as pics...search for a thread called something like "stock ecotec intake sucks", its the origional thread on this topic and gives some pics. also the whole arguement as to how and why it works is in that thread so please dont get it going here.

the manifold doesnt use a gasket it uses o-rings around the ports and yes you can reuse them as long as you dont tear or break them.
everyone who has tried this has been satisfied with the results so if you have a ecotec get a manifold and do it up.

DUDE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME I TRIED IT DOESNT FEEL ANY DIFFERENT
YOU PROBALY ONLY GAIN 1 HP IF THAT UNLESS YOU HAVE A BUILT MOTOR FOR MORE NEEDED AIR

HUH? You posted that and you have a Venom 400 with the Saturn motorsports Plasma Booster in your registry? WTF.... I have done the port matching and gotten rid of most of the bottleneck under the TB, IT DEFINITELY PULLS HARDER once it gets going. I don't care what some may say.

Hey 1hp is 1 extra hp I would take it for that little bit of work. (for those who know what they are doing).

For me it is not worth it, I assume it would be such a small gain and the way I AM??
It would have to be dyno proven.

You would gain more HP bypassing the radiator fan relay keeping your motor cool. lol
Seriously 4-5 hp for me Turbo motor cause the cooler the better.

Doing this is pretty much common sense. I'm starting as soon as I get my intake manifold which will hopefully be by this weekend. I have a dremel tool and some other stuff to reach far into the intake manifold to help me out a bit, so I hope to get at least 5 horsepower to the wheels.
I'm sure this will help out minimally once I install my turbo system, but at least I'll have some FREE ponies before then.

Peace,

8psi by July and 14psi by September! Wish me luck! Turbo coming soon!
Still tempted to buy a SRT-4 though....

I was the one who originally posted this, and yes it works. 5-10hp depending on other mods, closer to 5hp if pretty much stock, closer to 10 if other restrictions have been removed. Of course this is a guess, but I've dyno'd my car before and after other mods, so it's a somewhat calculated guess, I'm not going to pay to get my car dyno'd every time I change something. It also depends on the individual who is doing it, as there will be variations in the extent/quality of the workmanship.. Definitely worthwhile though.

by the way 04 firetec, have you been to the dyno since you put on the head and did that to your intake manifold ? if so where are the dyno numbers ?

It helped me a little too... I like to think of it as a "SECRET MOD" (I know, sounds gay) but most people haven't heard of it. Anyways, it definetly helped out in the higher RPM's. but shhhhh... I like to have a little edge over the competition.

I am waiting to get enough info to do a PCM reflash before I go and dyno test again.
