HO Manifold help *pictures*

Ok.. Have the manifold.. have 2 sets of gasket.. the OEM set doesn't have the bolt holes to line it up.

i.e. here:

So as you can see.. i don't know exactly where to dremel or line up this gasket..

So I got this gasket from a friend:

Now.. i've looked at pictures of our head.. and this gasket has curved 'sides' on the ports.. and on ny-jbodies, the bolt holes which need to be slotted out are the bottom ones, not the top like this gasket looks like...

Curved sides of ports vs. straight sides on the 2.4 gasket that i have:

So does anyone know if i line up the OEM 2.4 gasket to the bottom of each port.. if that's correct? or do all sides have to be cut into a bit?

Any help is appreciated.. hopefully this is understandable..

Thanks.

the bolt holes where there is 2 bolt in the same line need to get slotted to fit the 2.4

the 3 single holes match the 2.4

then you need to use the 2.3 intake gasket and port match it to the 2.4 port and slot the bolt holes

then you need to port match the intake to the 2.4 port

or you can get the 2.4 port to 2.3 port adaptor that chris fontana is getting made up

you will need 2 of the 2.3 gaskets for it , 1 will need to be port matched to the 2.4 ports

Am I just clueless here or ...

Why do you need the 2.3 gasket if you are going to make it look like the 2.4 gasket anyway?

cause the 2.3 gasket is fiber gasket and you can cut it

the 2.4 gasket which he posted a pic of is a hard plastic gasket with rubber o-rings melted to it , and it snaps into the stock 2.4 manifold to locate it

on the 2.3 there is no way to locate the 2.4 gasket , so ou have to use the 2.3 gasket cause it will center itself on the 3 bolt holes

that is the exhaust manifold gasket. Look at the ports on the intake...ok now that you have done that, the ports are oval right? the gasket is not. The next time you go to the junk yard go to the car that you pulled the mani from and look at the exhaust ports. Or go to autozone and ask to look at the gasket for the intake mani.

good thing i didn't use it then i just used the oem gasket and lined it up to center using the clips, worked out well, now i just have to smooth everything down.

thanks for the help/tips
and i'll be sure to tell my friend not to use his gasket, guess it explains why i couldn't find a "paper type" intake gasket after calling all the parts stores and dealers in town

Well, since you didn't port the intake yet, you can do what I did.

Since I have an auto, I stacked two regular 2.3 intake gaskets on there.
Kit gotten from Advance Auto parts, $6 for the kit.
Used the Ultra Gold silicone. But you probably can use whatever color.

After everything cured, I drilled the holes to match up to the 2.4L head.
Screwed down tight, waited a little bit, then took the manifold off.

Finally, where the head left its indentatio, I dremeled out and test fit again.

Only had to do this about 2 times, then I holded the intake to the head and went about my business. No leaks, no RPM needle jumps and got the sound under the hood I was looking to get.
