Help me understand this

Ok my car, at redline in 2nd is at about 90 km/h, and 140 km/h in third (don't remember first). When you buy power adders, does that limit change ? or do you simply get there faster ? I'm asking this because in my head (might not be right) the gear limits the speed you can be going by it's size, so getting power adders is basically revving up faster, since acceleration makes you go fast quicker and reach the limit quicker. Because if you're revving at the same speed even with power adders, this means redline is met in the same time as without power adders, if the final speed of the gear is the same, and you're not accelerating any faster..

That was my idea of it, but when I first heard about pulleys and lightened flywheels, going by my probably flawed logic, it meant that it gave you much more acceleration since it revs so much faster.

If you're still with me and lnow what you are talking about, I'd appreciate some help in understanding this.

Unless you change the gear ratios.... yes... you will hit those limits faster.

so getting lighter components is just like getting power adders, and while it doesn't increase the hp of the engine, it does the same end result which is accelerate quicker .

That's nice, time to get me some lightweight parts.

yep, it makes you accelerate faster.

it's not ghetto, it's "in progress"

Yep, that's all right.

The goal in adding power to our cars is to make it accelerate harder. This makes the car more fun to drive.

You're not trying to make it "faster" as in giving it a higher top speed. While the top speed the car is capable of will be theoretically higher as you add power, there's just no practical application for that on most of our cars.

As far as winding out the gears faster... I've hit my rev limiter in 1st a number of times since I've boosted mine since I just don't expect the revs to go up that quickly.

your horsepower at the wheels will be increased, as the engine is simply working under less load with a lighter flywheel and a different pulley. of course, you'll still hit the redline in the same places, as the only thing that could change this, as john lenko said, would be to change the gear ratios in the tranny.

Wait, we have a first gear? lol I thought that was just an excuse to spin the tires, not an actual gear!

j/k of course lol
