After purchasing my Z24, I decided that I am wanting to try the RSM Supercharger, but one thing that I was interested in is building the bottom end since I would like to spray also when on the track, and I wasn't sure exactly what people have done so far as increasing the size of the cylinders, pistons and ect.
Does anyone know specifically what the limit is of the Z24 engine when boring out the cylinders? I am interested in doing either a .1-.2 liter increase in displacement, but I didn't know if anyone had done this before? Would it be too much on the sleeves to bore the engine out?
Also, does anyone know whether or not there is a manufacturer that makes aftermarket pistons in larger bores? I plan to use aftermarket rods of course. I don't plan to run toe car too hard, but I don't too much know the strength of the Z24 bottom end and boost.

not reccomended to bore it, if anything i would increase the bore to a safe degree and decrease the stroke, maintaining 2.4L but will let u safely rev to higher rpm's giving you a good performance gain, especially that the rsm supercharger makes power until rev limiter, increasing the revlimiter will increase potential hp that is not achieved due to 6500 rpm redline.

When you get a motor bored, it is measured in the thousands of an inch. Most common is .010, .020, and .030. In a 4 cylinder motor, it won't add much to the total cubic inch or liter size. The main reason you get your block bored is to clean up the cylinder walls not to gain engine size.
If anything just keep the bore the same and see if you can find a crank with a longer stroke . If you could locate a stroker crank you would also want to look into buying shorter rods . That way you don't slam the tops of the pistons into the head .
That would be a safe way to increase displacement and still keep the cylinder thicknes . But boring an engine and then running boost is'nt the best idea when you are trying to increase the displacement . A stroker crank could push you to 2.5 liters .

Now, stroker crank. Who sells one? I would hope that the same person that sells the stroker crank would also have access to the shorter rods since I don't know exactly where to look for them.
Is the engine itself capable of revving higher if I had the ECU reprogrammed somehow? I knew that it had to be reflashed for the supercharger, but I didn't know whether or not they could do it either. I guess I also need to look into removing the speed limiter since I do plan on trapping higher than the car can go in the quarter mile.
I think they went out of business, and after dealing with them I know why but anyway. there used to be website dragevolution2200 that maid a 2.6 stroker kit. I havent heard a damn thing about them or even logged onto them for well over a year. the sight is no longer up, maybe they changed names or maybe they were full of @!#$ and closed down

yea... i wouldn't suggest it... your adding boost to your engine.. you want as much of a wall as you can in your cylinders...

Ok well like what was said the only way to really increase the displacement of the engine is to stroke it. You can't bore it out and actually make it a "2.5 liter" etc.. If you wanna rev it high then u need the nessisary parts to safely do it. New lifters, springs, pushrods, guides, and not to mention u would need atleast an msd contoller to override the fuel cut at 6500, and use the msd to set a new rev limter by spark cut at a higher rpm. If ur looking to make more power with a s/c kit the best way is to get a better flowing head, (for major work/ increases), forged interanls (where here u can bore it) Better fuel supply compinsated with a smaller pully for more boost, better fuel management (a stand alone to squeeze every bit of hp out of it), good free flowing exhaust. There are basicly tons of things and there is no big hope on actually increasing the displacment of the engine, unless u could get a hold of a stroker crank, which probably would have to be custom made (expensive). It is best to make it more efficent to make more power. U could even send the charger off for a more aggressive compressor wheel build. Im sure that would be expensive but u could prob gain a good deal of power out of it, if u could find a place that would do soemthing like that.

If you ever had to work on a 2.2/2.3/2.4, you'll know that even 0.040 is safe. Speed pro do some 0.040 over for the 2.3 as a replacement piston and it's safe.
Did you ever took a look at how thin .040 is? probably not because it's not even to weaken the block. the wall are minimum .250 thick on each side and you're telling me that .020 on each side will weaken the block? not even in a 100 years.

.020 is nothing, people do that to scrape the walls to clean them. .040 is still not huge. Mike karas ran .040 and made 410whp.

doubler - if you ever do .400 over, you will not have any wall left
it's .040 not .400. and yes it will still be safe to run boost even if it's .040 over.
