n00b to exhaust systems it seems

gonna get my exhaust done this weekend, but I wanna save myself a little cash and get my own catback and muffler.

getting a 2.5 crush bend (no mandrel in town ><

does that mean I need to get a 2.5in in/out catalytic converter or do I wanna go to the smaller 2-1/4in to allow some welding / clamping / whatever room?

my god what a noob question... just shoot me while you're at it too.

if you want to go 2.5" you'll still have plenty of room and yeah get a 2.5" in/out cat....but its up to you if you want to go 2.25". you'll keep more bottom end power as well as open it up a little for the top end. with 2.5" you might lose just a little low end power, but you'll also gain more top end power in the higher rpms. its up to you how you want it set up.

get compression bends. compression keeps pretty much all the size, just distorts it. basically like going froma circle to an oval.

crush bend, there are actually kinks in the pipe.

I don't think it's worth you spending your money if your going to get crush bendings. Your exhaust flow wouldn't be as smooth which can affect your performance. If I were you, I'd look outside your town for a shop (performance shop) or either save up your money for an aftermarket exhaust setup which will probably run you almost the same amount of money as an mendral bent cat-back setup. The thing is it's 2 1/4". No aftermarket companies make 2 1/2" yet.

Now I have to ask you, how come your getting 2 1/2". Are you planning on doing boost or doing alot of motor work? If so, go for the 2 1/2". If your looking to just do a couple bolt ons and call it a day, get 2 1/4". 2 1/4" is more suited for naturally aspirated j-body cars. I have 2 1/2" custom mendral bent myself because I do plan on boosting and already have some motor work.

If your getting crush bent cause it's cheap, always remember, you get what you pay for. You get an exhaust setup for cheap, you'll get an cheap exhaust setup.

Good luck
