i was thinking about getting the 2.3L Intake manifold.. i was wodnering how much it will help? and how hard it will be to install? any sensor problems ect?.. apx. HP difference? Iwas also interested in a High Flow Cat when i look on ebay and places they all look the same i was wondering if most cats are universal? Would it be easier to swap out the 2.3L throttle body too at the same time? what else can i swap into my car from 2.3 that will add HP? Will it sound different? better? Please let me know any problems i might have and pros and cons of the swap thanx
Once again. I don't think anyone has ever Dynoed that HO intake manifold. that's what I've been told and I don't know of any solid numbers to give you
the mod in itself. so far for me (I haven't put it on yet) has been simple. Slotted out the bolt holes so it'll bolt to the engine.
I've got everything I need to finish it...
I ordered the garolite flange from Exploited a while ago to do the conversion. it's been over a month. and brian "reassures" me that I'm getting it... I don't think I am any time soon though. that's the last time I do business with his ass...
seems like a fairly easy install if you're not afraid to screw around and make some stuff up as you go along.
Slot a few bolt holes and that's it?
hahahahaha.
I have intalled about 6 of these now, on pre2k manuals, pre2k auto (yes I made it fit), and now a 2000+ manual.
The bottom line is, you need to move, cut and finesse a lot of stuff to get this to fit... and you need to be careful about vaccum leaks.
ALSO, the prepping on the manifold is key. It needs to be ground out to match the ports, and I recommend grinding out the TB flange at the plenum... yes you need to cut the bottom 2 holes to slot them for the studs.
On a scale of 1-10 I would give this a 6.5... only because as stated you have to not be scared to dig into the engine a bit to get crap out of the way.
And the reason I laugh is because I JUST finished installing yet another one just a few nights ago... runs perfectly. Once again, the manifold fit by 1/8 an inch.
Good luck.

well wuts the size difference ect? does it sound any deeper at high rpms?... is it a considerably different can u feel the power?.. also did u do the throttle body off 2.3 also?
there is a huge difference in sound, it gets real deep and sounds powerful. I used the exploided flange and install was extremely easy. I noticed an increase in power especially at higher RPM range. I used the 2.3 TB and sensors, (except the MAP) and i have had no problems.
word. listen to him. he prolly used a dremel to shape the ports.
I'm using the writeup on the quad 4 forums. try doing a search for "Post your HO manifold pictures here"
I think that was the post.
Sunfighter is right. I forgot about all the porting. I went the flange way. listen to him for he is wise!
mastin knows a few things about this too. he'll probably have something to say.

Yeah I know about that,,
Stupid tranny pan fluid resivoir among other things

Remember....syringes go in the RED waste basket.
damn you and your automatic tranny mastin ><
did you ever get your HO installed? I'm STILL waiting for brain to send me that flange.
dude...both I installed were 96/98 autos..I also did one on a 96 5 speed.....I didn't notice any difference in install...how did I miss that? lol
It was quite a project for me. A definite feel of increase power. There are a few things on the NY-JBody site that weren't mentioned and needed to be done but weren't really any big issues. Like Sunfighter said, watch out for leaks.
I hope nobody was throwing any sarcasm at me, as in the latest H.O manifold writeup, one car is mine, and 2 others are cars I installed H.O manifolds on.
I am simply offering advice, the mod isn't completely "easy"... though I can see it being considerably easier with the exploited adapter plate.
The bottom line is, there is some work involved, and you have to have the cahones to take a drill to precious things like throttlebodies. This might not be big to some, but to others it's downright freaky.
The main concern with the install is the initial startup, you need to know what solutions there are for the problems that might arise... with his past install I just did we ran into 2 problems and I recognized one right off the bat.
The reason why I said it's harder on different cars is this:
on my pre2k Isuzu 5spd the manifold has all kinds of clearance.
On the pre2k auto tranny the manifold sits ON the tranny and we had to notch out the throttle cable bracket with a grinder. I also installed a straight down cold air intake on the car (very tight)
On the 2000+ manual the manifold cleared the front of the transmission by about 1/8"
So - yes... it can get tight. you need to move around wire loom, change a few grounds, move a few bolts... every tranny I've done it for is different.
So - if anybody was directing sarcasm at me for being "wise"... please rethink your statements. And if you weren't, I apologize for misunderstanding you.
All I am trying to do is forewarn people that this is a mildly tough job if it's your first time taking a wrench to your car.
Lastly, none of my manifolds I've installed were "dremeled"... they were all professionally shaped and ported, the flanges made flat, all casting and nubs ground down, and they were gasket matched.... not exact unfortunately but very very close.
I don't do anything the cheap way. Check my registry if you doubt me.

i did mine on a 96 auto and the fitment was tight but i didnt have to relocate anything or change anything to get it to fit in the spot
