Lately I've been looking for get more power/speed from my car. But I have a decent but heavy audio system in my car. Its probably around 80-100 lbs all together. How much am i losing for this extra weight? If any at all.
I was thinking about selling it and getting some upgrades for my engine
but if it that little weight doesn't really slow me down then I won't worry about it.
its not that much to worry about.
If you want to help you can take out your spare tire and the stuff like the jack. It wont take out 100 lbs but it will help a little to balance your system.

weight alone might be a tenth, but do remember, when you have heavy stuff in the trunk, how weight transfer of a car works...
when you punch off the line, the rear dips and the front lifts. the more weight in the rear, when that force happens, the more the front will lift and can cause more wheel spin and or traction issues.
that also adds on to the 10th that you already lost from weight.

Those have been gone for awhile
I'm actually thinking about selling my sub and amp. I could get something smaller that still sounds a good and put the rest of the money towards upgrades on the engine.

Good call Event, i was just gonna say that. Weight in the rear of a FWD car is absolutely useless in the quarter mile/eight mile drags. Also, one of the main advantages a J has at the track is that it is reasonably light. The more weight in the rear, the more the rear will sink on the launch and thereby lift the front tires resulting in less traction, a slower 60' time, and a slower e/t. If you're really going to be into racing often, then either trash the system, or just make it easy to remove for track days. I strip the entire back half of my car every time i go racing and it takes me less than an hour. And yes, its worth it.

this is my 2 cents...
invest in IDQ subs if you MUST have a stereo. They are DAM DAM DAM lightweight.
BUT, i reccomand you ditch your stereo system. Not only will you be able to hear in 5 years, but youll be faster. The day i took my subs outta my car, and then drove it... i was blown away by the difference it made. So i never had subs since.
I have heard people saying 100lbs=.1sec difference on the 1/4mile...
question is.... how much HP=.1sec ... wouldnt mind seeing the realtionship between hp and weight ...
Are the IDQ subs a quality product? I was lookin for a light weight solution to me needing a louder stereo.
