Air Filter right on Throttle body?
Thursday, May 05, 2005 12:05 AM
Me and some friends were looking at my car today and thinking of ideas for intakes on my car... and i am wondering if i just stuck a K & N filter on the end of my throttle body how well would that work ? ahah i am guessing it wont work to well or something but i thought i would ask any way... Reason i am going to make one though is because i have the GM S/C and so the throttle body is in a different place now then stock. If not i am going to just get a 90degree elbow and attach it onto the throttle body and run a 3" tube down behind the front bumper and put a filter on the end.

look. you're not the first one that has ever thought of attaching the filter directly onto the throttle body. however, if you want more dense cool air which will help your car run better, then stick with a cold air or even a short ram setup. attaching your filter directly to your TB only results in a cool sound, no gains. and you won't get a code from a misplaced IAT.

with the air filter right of the throttle body it pulls in alot warmer air due to being right ontop of the engine, not to mention like said above, the ait sensor still needs to be mounted.

some dude on here ran his eco cav on a dyno without any intake....gained nearly 10HP. So tossing a filter on the end of it wouldnt hurt the airflow to dramatically compared to no airfilter.

10 hp gain with a dyno to prove it... if you search for it, youll find it. I think the title of the thread was "stock ecotec intake sucks" or something like that.

Well for thoughs of you saying i would have to move the IAT sensor i don't have to worry about it... i have the GM supercharger there are no sensors in the intake part...

they're not talking about having it unplugged...they're talking about it not being in the intake tube which won't cause a CEL.

I had thought about trying that too....only problem I see Freebs is that on my filter I know there is no room to put it on....if i had a HKS mushroom filter then I could do it..

Us s/c guys dont have to worry about where to put the IAT at because its already in the supercharger......

Maybe a hood mod...say a scoop.. in the front to push air directly into the path of the filter? That'd be "cool air". Right? No?

eh, definatly not the first to bring this up, however you shouldn't be concerned with bringing in cold air as the roots blower will heat it up to fry an egg temperatures. some type of intercooling would be more benefical, maybe even water injection, i'd have to think about it for a minute.

I have Alcohol injection on its way.... so thats taken care of... but the stock intake is still there and i want it gone... and i know i am not the first to think of this and i remember seeing it posted before but i searched and could not find it so i asked on here...

Bobby - yea i now see what you mean... i don't know how well the filter will fit in there.....i think i am just going to have to look for a 90degree elbow and put a 3" tube on it with my K&N filter on the end and have it sit right be hind my bumper
