Alright, for starters, I have a 96 2.2 with the 3 spd... Now, a fairly good deal has arisen for me... my roommate wrecked his 94 corsica 3.1 3 spd... Now, at the very least I am going to swap trannies, just because my reverse gear is blown. More importantly, I'd like to get a little more power outta this sucker.
So heres the point... I have wiring knowhow, but almost no access to fabrication. And a tiny budget. First, would the engine mounts bolt directly in. Second, which axles should I use? Third, would it be possible to keep my steering system from the cavalier other then the PS pump? And the last that I can think of, at the moment, is the gauge cluster going to be compatable? Obviously the harnesses won't plug together, but I'm not afraid to splice till it works, if it will work.
I figure I'm going to have to toss my ABS system, which is broken anyway... I might ditch the AC(call me crazy since im in FL, but I dont use it anyway). And I'm fairly confident that I can wire all my in car accesories on my own if the stuff is completly incompatable. The cooling system shouldn't be any trouble swapping... I'm really worried about the actual physical bolting in though.
Oh well... its a thought process im workin through right now... any experts out there, I'd apprecate some help...

Maybe Im just pissed, pissed that my freinds are spineless, What else would you
call abandoment some night, when you're in a fight, and they could make things right?
Spineless. I miss some of my old friends, the ones who you could count on,
bet a huge amount on, the fact that they'd always have your back... Its like a kick in
the sack, just knowing, you've got nothing to fall back on. @!#$ this, Im done.
small budget might or might not be an issue, depending on various things. the lack of fabrication will be a big hold up for you, however, as a 3.1 is definitely NOT a direct drop-in for the 3rd gens. it will fit, but you'll need to source some different motor mounts from somewhere.
axle choice...hmm. i'd say stick with what's in your car already. they *should* work.
barring any fitment issues, you should be able to use your stock steering column and such.
as for the guages, the stockers might work with some repinning of the wiring, but i've never dealt with such a thing so can only guess.
got any locals who can help you out? it'll be a bit of an ordeal, but should be doable with the right resources.
also, check your local laws on this, but some states don't allow a car's engine to be older than the chassis. just something to consider should you be concerned with the legality of the whole idea...
Have you seen the turbo wagon?
14.069 @ 98.91mph
229.1hp & 261.7ft/lbs @ 6psi
no tuning time
i've looked under the hood and the mounts looked simular to my older 2.2's but don't quote me on that. IF they don't match up it won't be too hard to fab something. axels use the 3.1's if you can,but if they won't work ur stuck w/ the 2.2's
cavaliers been laid to rest
The saturn is being born
a new cavalier is in the mist
