High flow filter on a standard intake, any gains
Friday, April 29, 2005 10:09 AM
Here's the deal, my parents bought my 97 cav for me and my mom is real picky about me doing anything too it... Once I get away to grad school I'm sure I can do more to it lol. I could now, but I don't want a fight while I'm living in their house. so anyway my question is since I really can't do an intake at this point would getting one of the K&N high flow filters that fit my stock intake be a good idea?
Thanks in advance for the help,

Ir0nman

Pull out the bong, take a hole saw to the bottom of your filter box, and go with the K&N filter. Might not give much of an increase in power, but you will get better throttle response.

Yep, remove the bong--under your left wheel well is a series of bolts that cover it...once you remove them and a plastic piece of the front side...you can remove the intake resonator. I have a aftermarket intake..and once I removed it...on the high end I noticed a bit more grunt. Should only take you about 30 minutes tops. Make sure you have the left side lifted off the ground and the wheel turned all the way to the right before you start this. The KN filter idea that they listed above was what I did for the 3 days I waited for air intake. The filter is only 35 or so. If the money is even tighter...clean up the stock one and use it!! It'll still make you some noise and a little bit of power. Cutting the intake box after the filter as close as possible with damaging the box that holds the filter will give you the best response. Wish I still had mine...i'd send it to you pending you paid the shipping. Its easy!! Any questions just ask. Another cheap unnoticeable change to the human eye would be upgrading to NGK iridium plugs and wires. might only get 1-2hp at the most...but economy goes up and response of the motor is better. Good Luck!!!!
