Well people sometime this week I have this going on:
-porting a used 2200 intake manifold and swapping it in (porting today)
-56 mm TB from a Sunfire GT
-putting on a new fuel filter (since I will have the fuel pressure relieved anyway)
-flush & fill DEX-COOL coolant
So I have a few questions regarding the manifold swap.
Is flushing the coolant system necessary? the reason I ask is because my
coolant still looks good. (however in Haynes it list this as a step) so I went out and
bought a flush kit and new DEX-COOL.
on the 2001 2200's is the fuel rail difficult to remove? I have never had it off before.
how hard is removing the power steering pump?
If I do this myself about how long should it take? (I may have a friend's help though)
any help from the 2200 crowd would be great!
2200 intake manifold is plastic. easier to cut plastic, but what exactly are you planning to remove?
flush it. well worth it so things dont get backed up in there.
fuel rail is 2 bolts. easy
powersteering pump is 4 bolts. slightly harder.
you should have a hanes or chiltons manual planning to do all this cause when it gets late at night and you run into a snag, or need to know torque specs you;ll have it. see how long its taken and no replies before this one.
in short, dont work on a car without a manual. auto parts stores. 15$ gift that keeps on givin.
dont need to remove power steering to take the manifold out, but if you wanna, go for it.
depending on your "wrench skills" i;ve seen 30 min to 5 hours
The fastest I ever pulled one off was when I was going to do the 2200 conversion
Went to the junk yard and pulled one of in less than 10 minutes
Off course I just cut the fuel lines and anything else in the way
in order to use the 2200 intake manifold setup, don't you have to use the 2200 head as well or will the IM bolt up to the 95-97 head?
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

well the original person has a 2001, so i dont think thats a problem.
but i dont believe they are the same for the fact that many 95-97 people would have just swapped stuff over by now for a top feed conversion thatthe older 2.2's dont have.

true very true. i would have

I do have the Haynes manual and it says that the power steering pump must be moved to the side... you are saying it doesn't have to come out at all? does the serpentine belt have to come off then? will the manifold come off easy with it on?
I am just taking out my old intake manifold and putting in the ported one (then the 56mm throttle body). I just haven't got around to doing it yet.
The edge of the power steering pump sits in the way of removing the nut from the stud closest to it, so thats why it has to be moved slightly. Yes I would recomend that you remove the belt.
Why remove the fuel rail? unless the ported manifold dosen't have one on it, in that case you could remove the two bolts and pull firmly to remove, the injectors are going to be a little stubburn but they should come out, if you do it this way you shouldn't need to evan disconnect the fuel lines
