engine top and bottom rebuild
Wednesday, April 27, 2005 5:45 AM
...'kay, fellahs, this summer, when business is good and I get a little farther into my house payments, lol, I'd like to build the top end of my block, and "refresh" the bottom end. My engine has almost 150k miles, and I have a second car, so my cavi is my weekend warrior...rarely drive it, but would like a lil more power, maybe run a small (say 35) shot of nitrous.

As far as the top, I already have a 59mm rsm tb...am planning to purchase the rsm matching intake mani, and would like to find a fully built, complete cylinder head and maybe a jbp stage 1 cam, of course new gaskets all the way around. good idea? am i missing anything? any suggestions would be great...

...I really dont know much about bottom ends, but my mechanic buddy (who ill be paying to do all of my work, lol) says I should replace the rings, the seals, and some of the bearings (rod bearings, I suppose?). Anything else you suggest? I'd like to do EVERYTHING, i.e crank, rods, pistons...stroker kit, in general....but I think I am gonna be getting out of my price range and out of my driveability / reliability realm. Even though it is my "fun" car, still wanna have it reliable and what not.

any thoughts? thanks in advance.

...heheheh, saw your other post. just re-re-located it, back to my intake tube. My car was running so rich, it backfired almsot every time I let off the throttle. Dont do it, trust me.

dont buy the rsm mani.. its a waste of money go spend 50$ at walmart and get a dremel and do it yourself... then youll have the dremel for 1000000 other uses too....

If you wanna see what the 2.2 block is like, i just got mine 1 week ago, on wed.
I made a post. check it out here.
It did take them 3 months to build, but the holdup was the camshaft. Make sure you ask about time before hand. Well, that might not help, because i was told 2 week when I ordered it dec 29th.

...loki, Ive been reading your posts. Wow, sounds like you have good, good resources. well, regardless of however many people may tell me for this kinda money, I should sell my car, use the xtra cash, and buy something else, I have invested (including the price of my car) at least $15,000.00 in my cavi..would like to make it last a million more miles, or until it rusts off its frame, lol. Think Im gonna purchase the short block, too..Should have the cash by summertime. Would like to put aside 5 grand for some parts, labor, etc...maybe refresh a bunch original stuff, make it like new. Keep up the great work, friend.
