Need Quiet Muffler, Flowmaster Or Edelbrock?
Monday, April 25, 2005 6:35 AM
I was wondering if anyone uses these hush power mufflers from flowmaster or i was thinking about the Edlebrok RPM Series. Will this quiet down my loud ass exhaust?

flowmaster will not quiet anything down.

I have never heard an Edelbrock RPM series, or any Edelbrock muffler for that matter.

Yeah, I have a Borla with a 20" resonator. Not loud inside, but a little loud outside the car. A key thing to know is that the longer the case, the more absorption material there is within the muffler, so it will be a bit quiter. So an 18" case straight through muffler will be a bit quieter than a 14" case one.

exactly... thats why i run a 30 inch resonator, muffler, then a 20 inch.

thats like searching for a "peaceful anarchy". power makes noise, noise doesnt make power. unless you add other sub mufflers, one muffler isnt gonna make something that has power quiet.

think of the muffler as chains tying down the incredible hulk. (car gets louder as more performance parts are added, incredible hulk gets bigger the more pissed off he gets)...

one cable would do bill bixby (stock)
it will take two or more to tie down the hulk.

This was said by 4 reputable exhaust shops that has been doing this for yeeears.
Yes, a larger mufflers will quiet the car because of the more material inside.

Rule of thumb:
The more CFMs coming out the back, the louder it will be. Strait through will sound louder then S-tubed, chambered, etc. What you can do is change the tone/resonance of the sound with a resontor or glasspack or what ever you want to call it. It will not quiet down to the point of a stock sound, but it will lower then with out. Also, expect the tone to be more of a bass note and you will loose the raspyness too.

Key here is the amount of CFMs spilling out.

if you can fit it, but i had enough trouble fitting a single 30 inch.

and no, resonators dont hurt performance. most are straight through.

Do what I did. I bought two 26" magnapacks and a 14" magnapack. I have one of the 26" mp's between the cat and the first bend in the exhaust, the 14" mp between the 1st and 2nd bend in the exhaust, and the other 26" mp where the muffler would be. And I am using 2.25" mandrel-bent stainless steel tubing to connect it all. It is extremely quiet when I am idling and cruising, and it has a very nice subtle tone when I am accelerating.

thats basically about the amount of muffler-age i have on mine. same results as well.

By the way, did you decide to return to the org Event? All I can say is...welcome back!!!

how much work is it to install a resonate=or?
is it cut and weld in type stuff?

Event, do you have a cat, or just resonators? I cant see getting a 30 incher in with a cat. I have a catco cat, and a moroso resonator, what is a good resonator that will; quiet down the most? I am taking out the moroso and putting in a new bigger one. Which one should I buy EVENT!?

Thanks
Chris

Now I know why Event left.

Just get a Magnaflow Magnapack. They are one of the better ones. Me, I went with a Thrush glasspack...it was $15 and has a perforated core. Dont get a louvered core resonator.

I got a 29" resonator to fit on my car they had to cut off the ends to get it to fit after the cat. The header made that system louder. I know that i did the resonator and header at the same time and it sounds the same as before. So if i did not have a resonaotor that header would have made the whole system much louder.

Magnaflow magnapacks and powerpacks have been dicontinued, so you may be SOL on this one.

i have a cat, 2 resonators, and a muffler. theres room to make it all fit, and i am lowered so i know it doesnt hang down and scrape stuff... in baltimore and DC it prob wouldnt be on there anymore knowin these roads.

the 30 inch resonator is the measurements without any tips on it.

honestly, see if you can buy the largest one you can get. 30 i know fits. if you email me i think i still have the video of what it all looks like.

my partnumbers for maganflow parts are in the order they are installed on the car.

-pacesetter 72C1276 ceramic coated header
-94035 catalytic converter with o2 bung
-14464 4 inch case XL powerpack with 2.25 core
-14245 muffler in the stock mufflers place
-14415 4 inch round muffler/resonator located tucked under the bumper behind the license plate
-all exits through a magnaflow tip on the right hand side of the car

CR, basically been reading it for the last 6 months, but mainly been on health and fitness and weightlifting forums. concentrated on being in the wrestling ring more, and started cuttin up a bit. last april when i got into olympic style lifting, was eating upwards of 5,000 calories daily to support it. helps with explosiveness athletically. got up to about 341lbs weight wise, squattin way over 700, deadlifts in the same range. then i started cuttin down, gaining back agility, etc. now i still workout, but i gained a crap load of strength and lean body mass. hell i still do bent over barbell rows with upwards of 315lbs. never really left, just didnt post. still have my cavalier and still doin work to it.

Okay, So where did you buy it, I see someone said it was discontinued? Where could I get a 30" resonator in 2.5 inch?

I used a cherry bomb glass pack as my resonator. That also works as well you don't have to ge magnaflow.

i bought all my stuff local. checked out magnaflows site, found local distributors, and picked it up.

30 inch resonator in 2.5, might have to try summitracing.com for that. magnaflow only went up to 2.25 if i remember right

XL powerpacks
http://web.archive.org/web/20040408180948/www.magnaflow.com/02product/xl/xlpower.htm
magnapack
http://web.archive.org/web/20040417055407/www.magnaflow.com/02product/pack.htm
4 inch round universal
http://web.archive.org/web/20040408100459/www.magnaflow.com/02product/ss02.htm

if you cant find something there that you might can check the magnaflow site and find a local distributor, not just a dealer, but warehouse distributor to possobly be storing some of the old stuff, then check out summit racing. i believe like the cherry bomb or purple hornies are similar.
