Getting 2.3 HO Intake Port Matched, Use Gasket?
Monday, April 25, 2005 6:15 AM
Should I just bring it to a machine shop with a new 2.4 intake gasket and have them match it or how would I get best results? I got the intake for free so I can pay a machine shop to do it the best way possible. Should I just bring them the gasket?

You could try that if they dont charge much.
Of course you'll have to get the the welded to your mani.

And if it works, for a good price, I'd put an order in for one.

Wait, you used the 2.3 gasket? Wouldnt that be really restrictive? I thought you need a 2.4 gasket and need to port match the thing?

you have to cut the cammel humps into the gasket just like you do in the intake ports

and you have to use a 2.3 gasket , the 2.4 gasket is a 1/8" think plastic gasket with rubber O-rings

Thats what I thought, the intake "Gasket" on a 2.4 is connected to the intake manifold right?

right.

So you take that piece to the machine shop.
Have them make up a flange.

Then you have to cut off the area on the intake mani and weld the new flange on there.

Or just follow the online directions for portmatching using a dremel or sometihng.
Gets it close.

actually that would work pretty well, cutting off the flange and having a whole new one put on to match the ports on the 2.4 head. it would just take a lot of time and possibly get a little expensive. check into it though if you've got the money to spend.

Yeah,
Exploited did the hack and weld for mine.
Worked out good.

Just need more space since I have an auto.
Like another 1/2 inch.
DOH.

Yes. I too have been waiting quite a bit for that flange. Eh patience is a virtue though he said it was mailed out last week so I should get it soon.

The way I'm doing this is gonna use gasket sealer between the Manifold and the Flange. then cut up the 2.3's Gasket and use a little sealer on that then put that on the block. I feel bad for mastin though. He has an auto >< I have a stick and have plenty of room.

Now if only the weather will break for a change... =/

Yeah,

I remember the first time doing the swap, using the NYJbodies method,
I ended up using 2 2.3 gaskets.
And with all the silicone in between I got the space.

So, I was scratching my head like, why won't it fit.
Then I remembered...need a little more room.

I ordered their 2.4L flange to put on.
Hopefully it wiill show up sometime before September.

what is the fitment issue about? I did not read that in the NY j body thing, thought I was just suposed to port match it bolt it on and modify the TB? This kinda sucks, so I have to make an adapter, the welding is no problem I can do that but I didnt know about an adapter.

Well,
If you're using your 2.4L tb you may/may not need an adapter.
Just depends on how you want to rotate the tb.

If you have a 2.3L tb, then you don't need anything.

Fitment for autos,
The big huge tranny pot gets in the way a little.

he sells a adaptor so that you do not need to cut or weld , you just have to use longer bolts and studs

and you use 1 2.3 gasket , and 1modified 2.3 gasket

i used the 2.3 tb and didnt have to modify anything , just make sure the bracket was out far enough to get wide open throttle

I had alot of problems with exploited racing and getting my flange, took him about a month to get it to me, then i later found out that he did the portmatching in the wrong direction, after i had removed my manifold to put hte flange on. So i contacted him and he said he would send me a new one, then at one point told me the new flange was shipped, after waiting for 4 months or so i turned the issue over to my bank to refund my money, thats where i stand now. So i would watch out when you buy stuff from that kid.

if you go with the flange all you have to do is slot out the to pairs of holes, if you go without a flange you need to have someone weld some metal to the lower part of the intake manifold ports and then smooth it down to create a step, if you will, and the top has be be made to match the bshape on the 2.4 head. and then you have to slot out the pair of holes on the manifold.

So hold on a second here....

The 2.3 HO manifold needs to be spaced out 1/2" on the auto?

My manifold ported and matched to the 2.4 head.

I made my own gasket, using mr gasket material. works perfectly.
