hi, just wandering... which bolt-on mods are in there that dont change that much the sound of my car and that are more on the low-mid-range? I had a cone filter for a while, but at the end the noise started bothering me, also i have no cat and i dont like the sound... I want my car to be a little faster, not for 1/4 mile or any race, just for daily driving ... so what would u reccomend?
was thinking bout a k&n drop in filter, a lighter pulley and motor mounts, and maybe after i apply fatmat a nex xhaust with a big resonator
dont know much bout performance, maybe this should go on newbie's forum, but hope u guys can help thnx..
Why would you have no cat? Hate to tell you but any exhaust system will make noise as well as any air flow upgrade in almost all cases more power will make more noise. Engine mounts make the car vibrate and if you dont like sounds then you probably wont like those either. Either you get used to having a lilttle extra noise or your not going to move any faster.

..lessee...yeah, I second the above notion, gonna be hard to get a quiet car to run quick. That is having your cake and eatin it too, lol...it'd be like owning an m3. Not gonna happen in our cavis.
But I would suggest the following:
1-upper engine mount-will create very little cabin vibes.
2-crank pulley, good idea.
3-k&n drop in fliter...not gonna get too much of a gain, but at least you'll have a good, reusable air filter
4-you could lighten your car a bit, take out anything superfluous...spare tire/jack, rear seat, dont carry 100plus cds in your glove compartment, etc.
5-run all synthetic fluids, and keep your car maintained well...your car will run a bit faster like that
6-100 shot of nitrous....kidding.
but yeah, even with all the above listed mods, maybe you run a couple of tenths faster, but itll make your driving experience better. and it should do it with very lettle noise gain. man, shame you dont want an exhaust...most people like the sound...i run a header back side exit system myself...loud as hell.

1) noise doesnt make power....power makes noise. dont think anyone has heard a 300hp car sound as soft as a geo metro. if your goal is silence, stay stock.

heheh thnx for ur replies guys... i may have expressed myself wrong, i mean i know that noise comes with power but my car had more noise than power heheh and i just wanted to know the less-noisy stuff out there, n also i dont have that lots of money right now to dampen it all and buy a quality exhaust, i dont plan to invest a lot on performance but someday i will, and i'll also buy a cat
but we'll have to wait till summer work :p, i repeat, just wanted to know which cheap mods were quieter in the market
p.s. would a setup with a cat, a big resonator and a dynomax muffler (yes i'm cheap) will sound pretty much quiet?

instead of half arsin it, why not take you time and buy quality things that will make it quiet.
cheap stuff is made just to similate stuff. take any expensive well built car. you pay extra money cause they didnt just throw on some crap muffler with crappy packing inside which doesnt absorb much noise.
however you will pay a bit more for quality parts.
think of it in the way of sweat shirts. supposed to keep you warm
buy a cheap one, material is thin, you stay cold.
buy a quality one, material is thick, accomplishes the job.
same on parts for your car. some parts you can get away with like intakes. not exactly much construction to em. pipe and filter.
but for compound parts, aka more than one part, you get what you pay for.
and you dont need lots of money. if you have the money to spread out and get many crappy things, you have the money to get quality main things.
the sooner you start buying quality things, the sooner you will reach your goal. the longer you buy cheap stuff, the longer you will be replacing stuff, cause cheap stuff is nothing more than a quick fix....thats why its so cheap. doesnt last long or do the job something of quality would.
...oh, one more thing. a lightweight set of wheels and grippy tires! If you aren't planning a bigbrake upgrade (unlikely, since you said you dont wanna spend much money, lol), get a nice set of 15's (maybe konigs? some of their series are 1 pound per inch), with a set of maybe 205/50 quality tires. Will help your accel and grip, and be just as quiet...probably improve your braking too.

Actually underdrive pulley only free up HP you already have . If you have 115 HP then you will still have 115 HP . You only lessen the rotation drag on the engine making it seem like you gained HP .
