Tools Required;
15mm wrench and/or socket
7mm socket (1/4" drive)
1/2" breaker bar, and 1/2" drive sockets
1/2" extensions
1/4" nut driver
Lug Wrench
Mallet
Jack and Jack Stands
A little bit of Grease
OK - here we go.
First thing you want to do is jack up the car, rest it on the jack stand and remove the front passenger side wheel, and then the wheel well cover.
After everything is exposed, you will see where the lower mount is located.
Take your jack and use it to support the weight of the engine for when the mount is removed. Now, grab your 15mm and take out the bolts holding in the mount.
Here is the stock mount on top, and the replacement on the bottom;
As you can see, the mount needs a little help fitting in the bracket
So thats when you wanna grease it up;
Now use the mallet and knock that bitch in there.
Put the bolts back in after everything is lined up, and you are done...
Props to Stevefire for help on the install!

Just did the same install tonight. I didn't take off the wheel or the wheel well cover, it would make it easier to take out the bolts though.
I installed the Upper, too. Then I took it out a few hours later. The vibration was unbearable, it was shakeing and rattling the whole car at idle.

How exactly did you prop up the engine with the jack? Did you place a board on top of it or did you just lift in a certain spot or....

And also, how much did you tourque the bolts?

Andrew - the 5th picture down shows where the jack was placed. no board was used, and the jack was used mainly to help guide the mount back in so the bolt could be inserted. We didn't measure the torque - just pulled it hella-tight.

i think these same instructions are on Teamforwardmotion.com

This is interesting, because I did my installation alot differently.
I didn't take my wheel off, but I did jack the car up and take the wheel well lining off.
I didn't support the engine with the jack, maybe I got lucky?
And I didn't grease mine back up to install, I just used some muscle (and a rubber mallet, haha).
But the mount just wasn't for me, so I took it off and installed the stock one back and sold the lower to someone on here.
So if I understand this thread correctly, not everyone likes the aftermarket motor mounts... I plan to install a header soon and was going to change out the mounts first. Is this necessary? Could I install the header with a flex pipe instead so I don't crack the header? I like the idea of a more solid motor mount but I am not looking forward to a major vibration problem. Any suggestions?

Do what I did, put an upper mount insert in, but leave the lower one the stock one. I havn't had a problem and I've had it maybe 2-3 months now.
I had to take one side of the lower mount off when putting the rk sport header in and i left my wheel on and just went in from under the car... but i guess for picture taking purposes it works better with the wheel off... oh well good write up none the less.. i got my rk sport mounts today and i am just wondering if you have had a chance to take it out for a ride yet... if so how does it feel? and how badly does your cars interior rattle now?
The removal of the wheel, and the jack for the engine aren't exactly necessities, but they sure do make the job easier.
The feel of the change after the mount was installed was a lot more subtle than I tought it would be. Basically I just feel the engine a lot more, but there are not any rattles or anything like that - more viration yes, but it just feels different.
I think you were lucky for not having to grease it up. We hammered hte hell out of it, and it just wouldn't go.

what i've noticed is that after you remove the stock mount, if the engine does not want to move (for you to put the new one in) jack up the other side higher and transfer the weight of the engine towards a different corner of the car. once this is done, you'll notice you can freely move the engine back and forth with your arm
no need to hammer it in or use a jack on the engine itself.

My friend and I put in my lower mount yesterday, we hit A LOT of problems with my POS 2200. It might just be circumstantial, but it was a pain in the a$$ to get the bottom mount in because I had put the upper mount in first, the day before. It took us 2 1/2 hours mostly because we couldn't line up the engine to the frame on the bottom.
i hardly notice the vibes from the mounts in my car anymore. it gets bad on cold days but when it warms up they go away

the reason we greased it up was for it to go in a lot easier. Why make it hard on yourself? It sure didn't cause any harm.
I wanted to take the wheel off and wheel well liner out just so you could get at it easily with a breaker bar. Instead of working around the liner.
we jacked the engine at the engine mount bracket. (engine side) I suppose we could have used a piece of lumber but just using the jack never left marks or crimpled that mount at all.
the ecotec's are a hell of a lot lighter then the 2200/2.2.. so I'm not suggesting you do the same with yours !

You should take that new mount out ASAP and clean it off. The grease you used is a lithium/oil base grease and will damage the bushings. The proper thing to use for rubber/poly parts is silicon lube.
Also I should note that this part is actually referred to as the "Engine mount strut" in the Haynes/Chilton manuals. You want to use the torque listed as "Strut to bracket" for those two bolts (not to be confused with the strut bracket bolts which hold the bracket to the engine).
I wish my underbody was all new and shiny like yours

you guys are all wimps... No grease, only three wrenches (combination wrenches), no jacks or jack stands, and only 20 minutes to install the lower motor mount for me.

You're the man cool guy! I don't even know why you used a wrench, you should have just twisted the bolt with your hands.

instead of grease, use some dish soap. that works too

Well for thoughts of you looking for torque specs for the lower mounts they are 74 lb ft + 90 degrees.
