Cat Delete..

Before you all go flaming me for this, I know its illegal.

I went to the muffler shop today and had them run a test on my cat, because I suspected it was clogged. Turns out, I was right, it was clogged Car was skipping a sputtering on take off and really slow on take off. So I had them cut it off and not worry about replacing it. They welded a straight pipe in there and I was on my way. I was expecting a CEL all day so I kept driving and driving. Never did get one. The Car seems to breathe so much better and pulls much harder from take off. So for all who are curious, yes you can take it off without losing low end. And my EGT's went down about 300 degrees. Just a tid bit of info for you all. And before you go and raise cane about emissions tests, they dont do that in my state.

You probably didn't get a CEL because you have GM's OBD-I/II bastard computer.

if you had an o2 sensor there you should be getting a CEL but obviously you aren't... stupid OBDII.

Thats right, but I was talking to you about this on AIM and we determined it to be the OBD2 comp, Remember? When I bought the car I got it with a bad secondary sensor and had to replace it because of the CEL for it. So I dunno, I hit 70 miles with it like this and still no CEL maybe tomorrow though... heh

na you'd get one almost instantly or as soon as the computer notices the decrease of backpressure in the exhaust system. i'm catless right now and yea it sounds wicked and raspy but it hurts your mpg.

Hate to say it, but there are absolutely no sensors that monitor exhaust backpressure.

could the loss of a cat cause different o2 readings in the upstream sensor?

Not really, the same amount of exhaust is still flowing by the sensor, its just flowing faster, which really doesn't make a difference.

Actually, MPG seems to be improving (cant say for sure yet). But its kinda hard to tell since I do drive it hard alot. I was getting 320 MPT 4 mos ago, then I rebuilt the engine and it started off at about 250 MPT and it stabilized at about 275 MPT so I cut it out now and hopfully I will see the 330-320 range again
