A friend of mine suggested that I could just weld a header to the cat,, and run it back all on stock piping and put a muffler(Most Likely borla or Flowmaster) Would there be any gains, and I understand that no one car sounda alike but is there any general idea whether the exhaust would sound like crap or what?

not too much of a gain using stock piping because you are still bottlenecking yout exhaust
i'd suggest a header, high flow cat, and at least 2.25" exhaust piping with a straight through muffler (such as borla, magnaflow, dynomax, etc)
as l61 said, stock piping will still be very restrictive.
I understand that, but can anyone tell me about what I have written down here? you think it will sound descent?

just remember, your exhaust will only flow as good as its smallest point. and you don't want to bottleneck it or you get @!#$ for performance and raspyness. i'd recommend a 16" resonator in there somewhere also to quiet it down and make it nice and low-pitched. but yea a 4-2-1 header, 16" resonator, 2.25" custom catback, high-flow muffler. you'll be good. for high flow cats, check out Carsound for 2.25" cats.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

This is true i have a silencer in my muffler and when its in it takes away performance, it is very noticable with it out. Might as well just find a local shop that can bend you up a custom system it's not even that expensive and your header will thank you for it.

Yes officer I knew the speed limit was 50
I don't think it will sound bad, but trust me, spend the extra cash and get the full exhaust done. I just installed the Pacesetter header with a Magnaflow cat and resonator, topped off with an OBX muffler---all with 2.25" piping. The piping and installation of the resonator and muffler only cost me $150, and that is mandrel bent.
are you sure it wasn't crush bent?
cuz mandrel bent is expensive
you have to set up the machine and stuff
its pita sometimes
it might sound good, it might sound like total crap. nobody can really tell you that.
some people have said my exhaust sound pretty good on my car. i go ahead and put it on yours and it just my said like crap on your car
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
you asked what the gains will be... hence why everyone is recommending larger piping. if you are gonna pay to have a cat put on and a muffler put on, might as well pay a little extra and do it right with larger piping. the gains will be alot better... as for sound, every car is different...
