Hey, when the new 2.4 eco comes out, will it be a direct swap for the ol 2.2ECO in the 03-05 cavi's? And is swapping a 2.2ECO out of a cobalt for 5hp worth it? THX!

Damn, we need an edit button. Anyway, will putting a header and intake on an ecotec hurt torque at all?

I honestly dont know what the difference is between the 2.2 in the cavy and the 2.2 in the cobalt, yes, I noticed that there is a 5hp difference, I think that is just GM marketing, I doubt there is a difference at all!
From what I had read ... is that the 2.4eco (the one in the cobalt) is going to have 170hp 170 torque. Weather or not it will be will be a direct swap ... im sure some company or jbody member will find out soon enough when it comes out

would be nice if you could just do a head swap and add a vtech controller
see ya!
the eco in the cav and the eco in the cobalt are the same engine. the cobalt 2.2 eco has a bigger TB.

no. it will add power and torque
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
the 2.4 liter ecotec has 177 hp
just to let u know. I think everyone is hoping that it will be a direct swap. More importantly they will be wondering if the 2.0 liter supercharged engine will be a easy swap..lol
Things are looking better already!
being that all three have the same short block i couldnt see there being any big problems.

the 2.4 eco has from 170-178hp depending on application
and 16x-172 lb=ft tq
should bolt up no problem
only thing is the ecu since instead of two cassetes for igition it has four and the electronic controlled steering and throttle
any fwd eco should swap in for another
same block same basic structure just different stroke/bore and in the 2.4s case different head

I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
I am wondering if we would be able to swap out the 2.2 eco head for the 2.4 eco head?

i didnt notice the 2.4 eco with 170hp till my grandpa tryed to preorder the solstice....i have been wondering the same thing sence i saw it...
when is it comin out????????
should be in the hhr and cobalt sedan ss if that ever comes out
so should be the end of this year
as for the heads swapping idont think they will
not w/o an independent controller for the engine
due to the vvti and all
the cobalt has five more horsepower because it does not have a power steering pump the 2.4 and 2.0sc are direct swaps but you need the computers etc due to the lack of throttle cables. also all the ecotec engines are direct swaps with each other with the exception of power steering types and 3 of things ran off the head
