Hey all. My brother and I I just installed the OBX Racing header onto my 2000 z24. We removed the old manifold, and cut the down pipe just before the cat. Installed the new header. The clearance is pretty tight, with the header coming uncomfortably close to the power steering lines.
I mention the following just FYI since some of you might not know that this header was apparently designed for general Quad 4 / Twin Cam applications because it supplies exhaust back to the EGR. I think starting in 97 or 98, the engine was not made with an EGR system; the port going through the head for EGR was blocked off at the exhaust manifold. Annoying, but I just made a plate for the front of the motor where the gas was coming out of.
Now Here is my real problem. When decelerating, I hear squeaking sounds. I also hear these sounds when changing from Drive to Reverse or Reverse to Drive. I have noticed that the shift also seems rougher than before.
I don't know what to think. Could it be that I didn't give enough 'slack' for engine movement during shifts? I think I am going to unclamp it from the cat and shift some to see, but I'm curious to see if anyone else has seen this when installing a header.

i had that problem in my 99 cavy, mines a standard and it did it when i was shifting gears and decelerating, i changed both my motor mounts to the prothane ones and it hasnt done it since. i think maybe its because the motor had too much movement in it before and you know how the clearance is with the header in there, or should i say lack of. anyways i dont get that noise anymore. id say change your mounts.
Interesting. Thanks for the info. Which mounts did you use, and how tough are they to do?

Yeah mine is an auto and the motor mounts fixed the squeeking you are talking about. Another problem i had is the routing of the shifter cable. I ended up having to hard of a bend in it and it broke so watch the routing. And yes the clearance is cutting it close to everything on the auto and it is even hard to shove the header into the space during the install.
OK, but what mounts do I need to go with?
