I'm not too knowledgable about advantages/disadvantages when it comes to pulleys. Are there any that perform better than others? Last longer? Etc..??? I am interested in the asp underdrive pulley (can't go wrong for 50 bucks!!), but Id like to know a little bit more about pulleys before I get it. BTW, it's a 2.2.

hey man.......quite honestly don;t waist ur money......underdrive pulleys are designed to slow down ur water pump, tensioner etc......from the factory they are desinged to be able to spin or pump at the engines maximum RPM with out being damaged or blowing apart....so the whoel reason they designed under drive pulley is so that if u have u engine so modified that ur rpm is increased by a significant amount ur pumps and pulley wont blow apart.....so unless ur engine is making close to 300 horsepower....save ur money and buy a cold air intake or exhaust or intake manifold.....if u wanna make the most power outa that engine for as cheep as possible find somewhere to put a complete exhaust including high flow cat.....but the intake aswell as throttle body and intake manifold.....u spend the money on that stuff and i quarantee u will be happy......ttyl man!

where the heck you get that from? there are 2 pulleys. a crank pulley and a alternator pulley. the crank makes you rev faster and some say they can feel a difference at higher RPM.
and the alternator pulley slows down the alternator which makes it not put out as much volts. not a good idea for electronics and stereo systems

OK, I know when it comes to underdrive that it is bad to have the slow down of the alternator via the switched pulleys when running some serious audio equipment, but what about the RSM alternator pulley that is stock size, just lightened? I am looking at buying it when it comes out for the 2200 engine if it doesn't have any adverse affects on my alternator or my stereo's performance. I have the crank pulley and its great, maybe one of the best mods i've done so far. I figured the alternator pulley would be the same, decent gain with no ill side affects. Any input on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

in some engines having a underdrive pulley would affect the water pump, for something like the eco having an underdrive wouldnt really matter because of the water pump being driven off the timing chain, underdrive is still a bad idea though, there is no significant power gain at all, just get a lightened stock size one, otherwise your under charging your battery which can lead to problems down the road and if you have a stereo or neons or electrical stuff you would be really stupid to do that

Yeah that's why I bought my crank pulley from RSM. Underdrive pulleys aren't the greatest investment for a car with an amp and other high power stereo equipment. Didn't know if the lighter mass would affect the alternator, but from the sound of it, it won't. So, I guess I found my next mod.

Since when has the alt. pulley for the 2200 been out?! I called them and they said it was in the stages of being developed for distribution, but they said it would be about a month or so.

my fault, didn't see where you were talking about a lightened alt. pulley! thought you were talking about the crank pulley...
all this pulley talk.....i'll never understand it.......how much power are u honestly gonna get by underdriving a single pulley.....hardly nothing.....and if ur saying u can notice a difference......hard to believe.....power is not in the bottom end....u want ur engine to make some real power......start with top end... longer lift & duration cams, titanium valve springs, valves......all that......like once u have all that....then putting stock pulleys on makes no sense and thats when u get the underdrives.......to be honest those 2.2Ls are just ticking time bombs anyways.....espesially when u start making more power than they do stock......but my advise if u just wanna look good and sounds cool.....leave the car stock as possible......keeping it's reliability.....if ur serious about power....the 2.4L is a better candidate!
Don't worry about it Sirk. I was hoping you knew something I didn't and I would have been ale to buy that pulley. But as far as looking for big power out of my engine Ryan, I know it won't happen. The pullies from RSM are just lightened, making acceleration a little easier and its a noticable difference over stock for someone that drives through the Rockies constantly. This is an inexpensive way to obtain a little better performance over stock through the mountains. I'm definitely not looking for big power out of my cav, just a nice bump around ride that handles well and has a slight increase in perf. over stock. So far, all I have is intake, exhaust, header, pulley (soon to be pullies if they release it) and I did a tune-up (plugs and wires) recently as well. Thinking of a short throw, but I would call it good after that. I want to save some cash for college and such, then when I grad., buy a corvette
