My 1998 Malibu with the 2.4L has a rough idle. It idles at 800 RPMs and when you open the hood you can see the motor shacking more than what is usual for any engine. What do you guys think the problem is? It has been looked at by a shop and they couldn't find anything.Could it be the ignition electronics on the IDI cover? Thanks for your help.
My 2000 2.2 cavi has been slowly getting a rough idle now for some time. What can I do about this? My idle the other day was at 1 to 1.5k rpm for a few minutes.
My problem was a bad plug and also a bad spark plug boot. Just FIXED it last night. Number 2 cylinder plug was fooled, and number 3 cylinder boot was cracked.
No more Bosch products for me.

clean your injectors and intake valves could be really dirty with seem fuel system cleaner see if it smoothes it out i know mine did and my idle is very very smooth. just take care of your car and put quality stuff ans you eant have no problems
check your oil.
CAR GODS MADE THE 1.6 SOHC TO MAKE US 2.2 OHV GUYS FEEL BETTER.
my oil is good, I will try the injector cleaner and I will check the spark plugs and the boots. But I don't know if this will help because it has been doing it for a few years and I haven't had any problems at all.The shop thought it could be a valve sticking? Its just wierd because if you rev it to 900 RPMs the shacking goes away.Thanks for help.
