1/4 mile problem
Wednesday, April 13, 2005 3:39 PM
Im new in j-body and trying to figure out whats going on withh my car. Its a 2001 2200 cavv motor with hp headers, warm air intake, performance muffler and adj. fuel reg. it put me at high 17. Do i need to get the car re-tuned or do i need to put more money in it. Trying to figure out some things.

There's so many things that can be going on. What are you launching at? How hot out is it? What altitude are you at?

its a 2200 engine. that there is the problem. they dont have a lot of power.
if you want some decent 1/4 mile times, try a 75 shot of nitrous

well it was pretty cool that day and i couldnt really tell you the altitude but i had a .222 reaction time on the tree. The person with the rat on the page your crazy but that doesnt sound like a bad idea. let me know if you can think of anything thanks

its a hamster, not a rat.
a 2200 is naturally slow. stock times are like high 17s with those engines. even with all the bolt ons for that engine it will probaly only get you high 16s.
a 75 shot of nitrous or even a 55 shot is your best bet for decent times.
and reaction times dont mean jack. unless its bracket racing

99redz24, My 2200 5 speed ran 15.91 with mods in my reg at pittsburgh raceway, and it was my first time at a track. I think its the tranny thats given him the problems.

true, an auto 2200 aint that fast.
spaniard, true removing some weight from your car. take out spare tire and jack. passenger seat and rear seats. and anything else that you can. a lighter car is faster

His registry says the car is a sedan with an auto tranny. that right there is why it runs 17s even with his mods.

As for your question about the cam----that is a tough job--engine has to come out to install the cam for that engine (i have yet to hear of an easier way). Try doing a cat-back exhaust with high flow cat to add to your header, then get the pulley, motor mounts. 99redz24 is right though---you will probably only see mid to high 16s at best.

one other thing to ponder---the Autotrans interceptor or the B&M Shiftplus.

you dont need to adjust the fuel pressure , flooding it dont give you more power, strip some weight out of it an auto sedan 2200 NA will amost never reach 15s

Get the turbo kit for it. There actually is a LOT of internals/bolt ons for the 2.2, you just gotta know where to look. Coximport.com, cavalierconnection.com, jbodyperformance.com, etc. are all good places to look.

my 5 speed 2200 ran 16.4(not good at all) with what i have done to it now, and that was the first time i was trying for 1/4 mile...i'm thinking if i perfect my launching and do a few more upgrades then i should be in high 15's...75 shot of nitrous is gonna help quite a bit as well.

with an auto u probably will never see 15's w/o a booster. i.e. Turbo or Nitrous. But with a manual, 15's are possible with a few bolt ons. just gotta know which ones though.

Well, id say get the exhaust, the crane roller rockers make a pretty good differance, along with the crank pulley, and either the auto trans intersptor or B&M shift plus.

Also a 2.3 TB swap is good for some power, how much depends on other mods, stay away from the junk they have on ebay like the resister mods and TB spacer. Also i would dump the AFPR and go back to stock FP, the regulator did nothing for me but make my milage worse.

Then a 50 shot is alwasy a good way to go for not alot of cash, mine went 15.54 on a 50 shot running very rich, i had one jet size larger than recomended for the 50 shot to make sure i didnt run lean, and my A/F guage was buried on the rich side the whole run, and now at WOT it only goes to the second green light on the rich side.

You can also get a higher stall speed torque converter that can make up to a .5 second differance, but its not cheap either.

You could also pick up a few tenths by swapping in a 5 speed.

But as far as bang for the buck, the turbo is king on a 2.2/2200 engine.stock internals are good to around 10PSI with an intercooler and many have put down over 200 WHP and done it safely.

Then you can buy a 2200 off ebay very cheap and rebuild it to hold more boost and i think the most anybody has made so far with a built 2.2/2200 is Dan JuicedZ24 i think is his screenname, he put 247 WHP and like 26x something torque with 13PSI on a fully built 2.2. Check the Boost forum for more info.

thanks alot , really apreciate it man, how much would that roller rocker be around. I might go turbo and nitrous if my money is right. Also how about the Helix throttle body spacer. Whats the deal on that. A guy from auto shop said i should get it but i figured i would ask everyone else first. Let me know whats up
