Hi guys,
I have a Cavalier Z24 (2.4L 150hp) 99 5 speed. I have seen soo many web sites about the 0 -60 MPH performance of a Z24. I have seen sites claim 7.8s through 9.5s (this number is obviouly wrong ).
Can anyone tell me the real numbers?
Thanks,
James
are you asking for a guess, or for the real thing, because if your asking what your car can actually do, then no one can actually tell you that. all cars are different. there are some people with a stock car that run in the high 15's, and others that have run somewhere in the 16's. all cars are different. but if i remember correctly, i think it is about an 8.0. not 100% sure on that, but i think that is about right.
The real thing. The real specification that they would officially put in books and all.
8.0s Is Cool. I have seen a Book that said a Z24 is 8.0s and a Honda Civic (160hp) does 7.8s.
What do you think about that? I dont think a Civic Si is faster that a Z24....
stock Z 5 speed witha good driver should be a 0 - 60 of 7.7 and a quarter mile of 15.9 to 15.7. That is average. Intake , exh, motor mounts, I have heard of a few getting it down to a 15.2 with just that little of mods. Which is pretty good. That is in the mid west with 70* weather and no altitude to worry about. But like stated above, there are alot of things to take into consideration. This is just a rough estimate.

Wow 7.7, one must be an amazing shifter with Good tires....
I'd like my car to best a Acura RSX Type S (200hp)?
What mods would I have to do to drop my 0-60 time to beat that car?
Start with your typical stuff. Intake, header, exhaust, motor mounts, pulley. Then go from there.

That's exactly what I just Ordered.
I got the Intake (Weapon R)
the Best Crank Pulley around (0.8lbs)
Upper/Lower mounts
RSM Header
Customer 2.5 Inch exhaust.
and the BF Traction T/A "ZR" tires
What times are we looking at now? The person doing these mods for me says I should be in the Low 7s ( around 7.1 to 7.4 )
i would just go to a local drag strip and make a few runs before you install those parts. that way you can have a place to start. lets say your best time stock would be a 16.1
you add those parts then go back a few weeks later and your down to a 15.6
keep in mind thats just an example.
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
posted 0-60 times assume perfect shifts with an auto tranny. practice makes perfect.
For a 99 should be 7.5-7.8 secs. Showroom stock with a good driver.
00-02 should be at 7.3-7.6 secs. Showroom stock with a good driver.
The Getrag ratio are better spaced, and weight droped a little in 2000 and up models.
But again you got to deal with variables as well.
