alright guys i have made up my mind to go with an all motor setup instead of going with the turbo since adler and a few others are hitting the 13's and lower. I read all the time about the 2200 cams and some of the discussions that yall talk about. But at the end of the summer here i plan on swaping over to a 5 speed, puttin in a lightweight flywheel and a stage 2 clucth. Then i want to pull of the head and get a pretty aggressive port and polish, with either a custom ground cam or maybe jbp stage 2 but i dont think it is gonna be aggressive enough for what i want. Im thinkin of replacing everything in the short block basically to make everything run smoothly. I will probably install a sfac to get everything tuned in and runnin right.
I have some friends that are into the neons and if anyone knows anything about them im tryin to figure out how much of a lift over stock the number 14 cam is for the sohc neon. Because a couple of all motor neons with maybe 2k in the motor are runnin mid to low 14's.
Also one more thing! i am runnin the obx header and i noticed that the wholes on the flanges where not very big compared to other headers i have messed around with but those were for other cars. My question is, is that typical for the 2200's or is the a better designed header that i have not found or heard anything about. everyones input is welcome and if you have some suggestions im open to anything. Because at the end of this summer i will have about 4k to spend so im open for anything. thanks for the help guys

well good luck, and i hope you have another xar to drive, what you intend will be really rough for Daily duty.
“Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that’s even remotely
true.
Cannon fodder is my daddy.
To begine the JBP Stage 2 Cam is about all yu'll beable to run with the stock PCM. The SFAC only controls the A/F ratio and the PCM controls the ignition and the rev limiter, which is factory preset to 6000rpm. With out a way to re-flash the PCM or an aftermarket computer, your still stuck with the same rev limit.
You could look into Crane Cams(talk with Dave Maxwell), or Comp Cams they both have custom grinds or they can regrind a stock core. Both regrinds cost about $130 and take approximately a week to do.
As far as the head is concerned, you can read up and P&P the head your self or get the JBP head. Patriot also has a head, but there are varying reports on how good they are.
The exhaust ports on the 2200('98+) heads was reduced to increase torque, but it also put a damper on horsepower. Most of the P&P'ed heads have alot of work done to the exhaust ports to help. If you port your own, be sure to put allot of emphasis on the exhaust ports.
Howell Automotive has a set of Crane Gold Race Roller rockers, that would help allot. There is also a couple of people that are working on converting to the aftermarket LS1 roller rockers, which have increased ratios for more lift from the cams, which would increase flow. Do a search on those, I think they should get some really good results from them.
MADJACK,
As far as i knew when doin the auto to a manual swap i was gonna have to get the computer reflashed anyways or can i just take another 5 speeds PCM and put in it my car. I think i read that i could not! But i may be wrong. And here in the org i saw some posts were people had said the dealerships can do it. If there were able to re-flash it would they be able to change the settings inside the PCM itself? Because my buddy with the neon has a PCM that changed his rev limter and everything from like 6800 to 7800. But the difference with that is his computer was from AFX already done. I take it that they dont make anything like that for the j cars yet! I was very impressed with his computer makes those first to gears long as hell. with that computer, a header, intake, exhaust, short throw shift and underdrive pully we pulled a 15.6 out of it. Stock it ran like mid 16 i think? its just a 2.0 sohc 4 door 5 speed grocery getter. So i got my exterior and sound system the way i want now im ready to make the speed part of it.
And when i go to do the speed part i want to do it right the first time! Thats why im askin everyones opinion and what they think i should do for performance parts. i know the swap is gonna cost me about a grand for the parts and labor. so i will have about 3 or 4k to put into the motor itself and i dont want FI. How big of a lift do you think i should go. I dont mind the loppiness as long as it stays pretty reliable. As far as another ride that is takin car of. so please everyone give me your opinions on what i should do and how i should do it. thanks again and please everyone give your advice,
RICHARD
For that $ that you are spending you aren't going to gain much. To take full advantage of a NA engine you will want to increase the Compression ratio, Knife edge and balance the crank, balance all the internals, lighten the valve train, and when you do the Port and polish have larger valves installed, the Jbodyperformance cam should be fine or a regrind would work as well.
