i ve got it in and all sensors are connected but when i turn on the car at idle it idles like and 2500 and its loud and then it starts going up and down like if wants to die on me. also black smoke was starting to come out. what can it be and what do i do. what would fix the problem
ive let it idle for about 5 min and i took it for a ride thinking maybe with me giving it a little cruise it would go away but when i floor it all the way it shuts off like if the gas shuts off plus it smokes black now when i floor it and when i shift. what do i do. what can it be?

exactly. after it idles for about 15 minutes, give it a few revs and it should be idling back down. as for the black smoke... where is the black smoke coming from?
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
black smoke is coming off the exhaust and i know its normal but this is alot of smoke and my car never did that till now but when i get home i'll list everything i got cause im at work right now.
what about when i floor it why does it feel like the fuel shuts off.
If you are seeing black smoke out the back, I'll bet that when you floor it, the fuel does the opposite of shut off. It drowns out the spark...kinda like flooding an engine.

ok if thats the case what do i do about it?
First you should diagnose what it really is. Pull the plugs and see what they look like. If they are black, then you are running pretty rich. I am willing to bet this is the case. I am thinking either your IAC or TPS is not giving the proper signal.
Did you convert to OBD1 for the HO?

I would say to check IAC and also check that you have the EGR plugged in. It doens't have to be connected but the 'solenoid' needs to be plugged in. At least on mine it is Not happy without it.
Also on a side note: Will the 2.4 IAC work with the 2.3 Tb? Cause I have the 2.3 one in there now and it holds a high idle after i drive and push in the clutch and then after like 20-30 sec it comes back down. I have no Vac leaks so I'm thinkin its a faulty IAC but a new one is like $50.
ok i let it idle for a while and now its idling fine but as soon as rev it a little bit then it goes back to reving up and down by itself.
oh. Based on the title of the post I thought he swapped in an HO motor.
That darn HO manifold. As much trouble as it is, I really don't think it is worth it unless you are running a turbo.

You cannot use the 2.4L IAC on the 2.3L throttle body. The pintle is shaped completely different. Try cleaning it real good with carb cleaner. It may be sticking. If not, then just buy a new one.

so then is it normal for my car to be throwing all that black smoke. another thing i noticed yesterday is when i floor it and let go you know how your car back fires well flames come out of the back of the exhaust. plus when i take off it is also throwing flames out is that good or is that bad. i know that i aint pulling that much hp to be throwing flames like that. can it be that it is running too rich. plus i ve let my car idle and ive driven it and everything and still at idle it still jumps up and down constantly but do you guys think bybuying a new aic sensor would fix that. because ive tried disconnecting the battery and letting it idle but it still hasnt reset. what do i do?
I cannot explain that black smoke. seems unnatural to me...
about the idle are all your vac hoses hooked up correctly? it should reset after a few minutes just as said... no leaks?
that's my 2 cents

IAC?
Hmm, is that the sensor for older model cars uses the spring plunger?
Even sence the Cav from the wreck, I've always used the 2.4L IAC.
Granted, either one should work.
Even from ny-jbodies: "You can use your 2.4 Idle Air Control sensor, just pull off the plunger on the 2.3 one, and swap it with the 2.4 one. "
Just make sure the sping is actually moving. You should be able to adjust somewhat with your fingers. This 2.3l tb I got recently has a seized up spring so it wasn't reading anything.
Still though, with the cams and the HO intake, before all the header jimmer jammer the car definatly will be sounding different.

Remember....syringes go in the RED waste basket.
i ve checked all my vacuum lines and breathers and i even went to go buy a new aic sensor. it was 75 at autozone ouch it hurts but even with the new sensors it doesnt fix the problem. maybe someone can send me a diagram or even if you can draw it out to make sure that all the vacuum line are in the right position. thats the only thing that i can think of. but let me know please.
how the hell are you guys paying 75 bucks for an IAC valve ( btw it IS a valve not a sensor and its IAC not AIC)... when i went to get mine last week it was 39 $ ...BUT lol i also bought some intake cleaner and a manifold...and the guy rang everything up but skipped right over the IAC valve thinking he already rang it up...and i didnt pay a dime for it...didnt realise it wasnt rung up till i got out to my car and looked at the receipt cause the price seemed kinda low
aic iac sensor valve whatever you know what i was talking about!
thanks for your post though it really helped my problem with your post i figured out that i got jacked on my "IAC VALVE". that cleared up all my questions.
I'd say your manifold isn't sealed to the head very well.....
