Well I finished my 2.25" rear section.....
The results are, odd to say the least.
At idle, and up to 3K in 1st, 2nd and 3rd (normal shift point is approx 3K) The exhaust tone isn't loud, but very deep. A nice blend of exhaust sound, engine sound, and intake.
Above 3K in 1st,2nd and 3rd the deep exhaust tone almost disappears, and all I can hear is engine/intake.
In 4th and 5th there is virtually no deep tone to the exhaust, it sounds almost stock.
And my girlfriend picked out a halfway decent looking exhaust tip, single 2.25" to a dual outlet, in chrome (which will change soon enough).
This exhaust tip has some restriction or something... when I go WOT, once I hit 5K-6K in 1st, 2nd and 3rd you hear this loud, high pitched whistle, which intensifies as I get closer to 6K, then stops when I shift.
This whistle wasn't there before the tip was installed, so obviously the tip is the problem......
My g/f says it suits the car though.
According to my butt dyno... it's similar to before. If anything.... 1 hp gain... not much IMO.
According to the girlfriend dyno... it pulls like a mother. She has commented several times how WOT throws her head back, it hits the head rest, ouch, you SOB, no sex for you etc. etc........
I did however notice, when cruising in 4th at about 35-40mph, when I'd go WOT with the stock muffler, it was a dog, and made all kinds of odd noise... I'm assuming this was the clutch or something.....
Now when I go WOT at the same speed in 4th gear, it pulls a LITTLE harder than normal, but not much. But it is noticable.
The muffler used for this project was a Summit turbo muffler.

I figured for $15, if it sucked... I could try again....
But so far I like the results...
Oh and a side note, there doesn't seem to be any raspy, or hollow sound to the exhaust tone for those of you not into the sound of some of the canister style mufflers.
I know it's JUST a Cavalier, and I'm sorry if I hurt your ego.
Oh and I also, now have a stock Z24 muffler if anyone wants/needs it.
You can pick it up, I won't ship or deliver unless you cover the chargers.
The muffler will need to be welded on, but from what I've seen, it's pretty solid.
And it's free.

i had my exhaust tip whistle on my last car, is the tip a snug fit over the exhaust pipe, when i had one that whistle it was becasue it was one of those "bolt-on" tips and that thing drove me nuts.

Yea, it's a bolt-on alright.
The problem, is that the OD was 2.25" on my muffler outlet. the OD of the tip is also 2.25".
It doesn't fit as they say.....
I had to use my pipe expander to spread the pipe open a bit to make it fit, it's now so tight, I couldn't get the screws on that hold it on... it doesn't move at all, thank god I got it on fairly straight.....
I'm assuming the whistling comes from where it splits into 2 tips.....
