2.0 SC crate engine
Friday, April 01, 2005 3:31 PM
hey guys well im thikning of buying my friends 99 z24 w/out engine or tranny for 500 bux cuz it just sits there, and he knows ill use it more than he will, anyways my question would the 2.0 SC need the tranny from the redline or ss or could i use a 5 speed from the junk yard, im really interested in doing this as my curent fire will do nothing but looks and no go as i dont wanna pile money into it with all my warranty, and plus i think having a 2.0 cav would be kewl, and if the numbers on the redline are true lighter would equal a lil better, any ways, ohh and what would the cost this project cost you figure, money really sint an issue unless its a waste

It's not really a boost question, he's asking about an engine swap.

Not a bad idea but I would expect you to be paying a lot of money for a SC crate motor, It would probabally be cheaper & faster to find a LD9 and put the GM SC on it.

you could put a s/c on the l61

the engine is 3800 bucks , but i would be concerned that engine management would be expensive, considering this is designed as a drop in replacement for the saturn ion redline..

If you think about it, this engine could be considered a drop in replacment for us ECOtec guys because id would bolt right up BUT engine management would be an issue, something like greddy e-manage could be an option....

why? you have a 2.2 ecotec, just s/c that. SO much easier.

well, doing a motor swap isnt very easy to do. No one has done that swap yet, so there is no telling about what problems should occur. I dont think that its worth the trouble, and perofrmance wise, i think the 2.2 would be better.

i think i might just buy a cavi after i become a tech. and put a 2.0s/c in that or something so i wont be swapping engines on my daily driver. that sounds like a much better idea. when the hell is GM gonna come out with the s/c for the 2.2...i doubt it will. who else has s/c i know rsm has one. does vortech have one for 2.2?

i think vortech has one for the eco, but in december i was talking to a saturn tech and he said that gm isnt going to ever come out with a supercharger for the 2.2l ecotec. you can use the 2.0 s/c but going aftermarket would be a better idea, since those are made for the 2.2.

bottom line is that it would simply be much cheaper to s/c your eco and you should have comprable power..

umm see this is the thing u guys didnt listen to my statemenbt of warranty

im really interested in doing this as my curent fire will do nothing but looks and no go as i dont wanna pile money into it with all my warranty,

i have convinced my friend to sell me his 2002 fire, with no engine or tranny as well they are both missing, yes for only 500 dollars, missing because he blew hem both up and couldnt get warranty he was running like 15 psi on a stage 2 kit w/out retartding his timing anyways took it the track and got to 2nd gear where his tranny like buckled and he shot three pistons through the head dont ask how, so he sold it to me as i had sold him my 1991 all-trac celica with over 400 horse at the wheels

the amount of boost you can safely run on the 2.0 engine over a 2.2 would i bet be 2x or 3x since it has forged rods and CRANK.. also strong pistons..

GM in there infinite wisdom thinks only people who run standalones will engine swap so they dont bother helping anyone out there. they could sell a HUGE amount of these if they bothered to do any research into what we need to actually use them in cavies or any other car for that matter. i bet we could get an ODB1 chip burned with the right specs for it though.. kinda like a B18 honda setup..

Well i will bring this back from the dead becasue i didnt see it posted anywhere else, but the 2.0 eco crate engine can be had for 3500 bucks thru www.gmpartdirect.com under part number 12499466

Looks like about 350 for shipping to a fedex hub for pickup only.

Not a bad deal, and would be a nice swap for any 5 speed 2K+ cavy or fire.
