I want to get another another throttle body off of another 2200, one yard has a few, $45 for one. Now I have access to a laythe/mill combo. To bore it out all you have to do if make a new butterfly plate and obviously bore it out to 60mm or so. Would any other modifications be needed? How much of a gain? I heard something bout the hole being offset? Is this true, how would this effect boring it out? Thanks
yep its it not off set you will bore to thin and then run into opoen hole that pull air, i mean pull air that doesnt go through the air filter. not good. i got mine boared to 59mm and they didnt off set it like i asked and now i have a hole. so my throttle body is pretty much screwed
Im not sure I would want to bond something to a whole in my throttle body, anything like JBweld or similar compound that is epoxy based can become brittle over time, pieces of aluminum filled polymer breaking off and falling down into my cylinders does not sound like fun. I would say do it right, either don't bore it out large enough you are going to create the hole, or go find a differen't throttle body that will meet your specifications.
The stock ecotec TB is 58mm, we can bore them out to 62 without problems, maybe you should see if the stock eco will bolt up ok then you wont need to make any modifications.
Oh yeah and vibration is the main reason I would worry about that stuff breaking off or coming loose.
What are problems that could come along with a bored out TB? Would I notice a difference w/ a intake?
i have a 2200 tb in my garage... i so wana bore it

i bored my ecotec TB out to 62mm and also didnt offset it and got a slight hole in the IAC passage
have it temporarily plugged for now and my plate is a tad small but works great except for a little high idle
so my advise would be to order the plate at the size you want to go, then have the TB bored, 1 mm off stock centerline, to fit the plate, and dont have the holes drilled in the plate until you get it placed in and then drill them exactly where you need them to be. and you should be good.
also the ECU may have to relearn idle and other settings, just give it time
