ok i can get my head port and polish with 5 angle valve job and shaved for anywhere from 375 to 450 the guy said. its a well know performance shop around here too. do you guys think it is a good price? thanks for you input
id say go for it
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
id stick with a 3 angle valve job , the 5 makes the seats to thin and will wear the valves out quicker
really!! ok who has a 5 angle have you had any problems. oh yeah he is gonna shave the head so it boost the compersion also
by the way he said multi angle. i told him 5 angle and he said he was gonna do the multi. is that the same thing i got confused
I would also reccomend 3angle, the 5 angle is definatly superior but un-needed and in most cases costly. sounds like a good deal to me, thats about the going rate, see if he'll back-cut the valves also.
Shaving the head alittle raises compression by reducing chamber size, when the piston is @ TDC (top dead center) there is less of a space there for "air" so it compresses more = more compression. shaving the head is not a great way to go about raising compression but works and is cheap. if you take too much off and over heat the engine and it warps the head you may be out a cyl head with all that work done to it.

he's just referring to a common 3 angle job... altho if you specify 5 angle he'd do that instead
I have a 5 angle job the car picked up a lot of power
my P&P was pretty aggressive tho, they definetly went to town on the ports... paid out the @$$ for it tho... but I went to a very very good shop.
I'd say go for it for that price its almost too good to be true
sounds good to me
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85

i know i have to get a muffler i dont know what i want yet. i think i might go with a 4 chamber flowmaster with a res so its quiet but i dont lose the power compared to the stock muffler.
You don't want to shave the head. You'll create timing chain problems. I think it was Deziboy that did it a few years back.... He definately regretted it.

Mattf,
He's got an OHV not OHC. The cam is in the block not the head. The only problem with shaving the head is the non adjustable rockerarms, if he still has them.
Yellow22,
If you do still have the stock rockers don't go more than 0.015" total on both the head and block, otherwise you will throw off the lifter pre-load. If you're using any of the roller rocker conversions, you'll be safe to what ever amount your machine shop says you can go. Also, if you surface the bock you'll gain more compresion for the amount you remove than you will by surfacing the the head. The cylinder bore has more volume than the combustion chamber in the head, so you raise the compression faster.
cool thanks madjack i am planing on going with crane 1.6 rockers. so if i go like.027 will i be okay cuz i thought i heard of someone going that much. thank man

i have to throw the
flag up,,, your talking about all this (yellow22) but in another post, your saying, i don't wanta pull the motor to do a cam.... and your "talking" to a machine shop about specs, but you don't know where to get a cam.... seems odd....
jbp or a custom grind on the cam. im just not sure which one yet. i know where to get the cam and i was planing on droping the motor mounts to do the cam but someone said you cant do it now or something in another post. all i want to do is get my cam 3angle and ported. thats my plans. and the guys at the machine shop just told me whenever cuz my friend is really good buddys with them. so they told me what they can do. so yeah i do know where to get a cam and for the motor i said i dont want to pull the whole motor. so what else you gonna rip on me for. if your not gonna help me out and answer my ?'s dont say anything.
Thats a good price. The shop will deck the head if they have to. Dont machine it. With the top end off you might as well port the upper and lower mani, throttle body. Much better performance.
yeah i already have the quad 4 tb and i am gonna port match the head and mani's.
