Single exhaust ~vs~ dual
Tuesday, March 29, 2005 5:15 PM
I have the RK dual exhaust on my 2.4 and a couple of people have told me that I would get more power by making it into just a single. I am keeping it NA right now, and probably for a long while. Im having mixed opinions about it. Any suggestions?

you wont get more power, it will just reduce sound and reduce weight. Duals are just for looks, atleast for our cars.

Yea crackajax is right... only way a duel exhaust will help is if your running a v6, v8 ect... with our inline 4 engine all duel exhaust does it add more weight.

I am pretty dissapointed with the sound, too raspy. So there wont be any change in performance?

I had the RKSport daul exhaust before but, I took it off and put on a single magnaflow exhaust and it sounds much better then the dual. I'm very pleased with it and glad I made the change.

...same with me, friend. I have had, like, 5 diff exhaust changes, lol. I had the rk dual for a while, but everyone is right, by switching to a single, youll save literally 30 plus pounds, those magnaflow mufflers are 20lbs a piece! Heck, if you dont mind a looouddd car, you can go hardcore like me, run a side exit mufflerless pipe like mine...heheheh..save even more weight!

...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.

sorry to jack the thread, but i was thinking of putting a dual exhaust on my Z24, it would just be for looks, but if it sounds better, that would be a plus, is it quieter or louded with a dual......Also does anyone have a pic of their underboder on how the dual is hooked up, i'm planning on having a shop bend me a 2.25 pipe and just wanna know where to splice in the pipe for the second exhaust

Haha, sounds like mine, I have 2.25 no cat w/ 18" resonator, no muffler and resonated tip, exits right before my rear axel. It's loud as hell, but I like the "raw" sound of any engine. I am prolly gonna break down and buy a magnaflow catback though Until then I'll enjoy what I got.

i have a custom dual fireball set up with the cat removed. a single is better because you DO LOSE POWER with duals because you lose back pressure which causes the valves to float. if you dont have boost or a VERY POWERFUL N/A motor, you should stay away from dual exhausts. ....just my 2cents

Well, I just had my exhaust converted into single today and Im pretty satisfied. I also needed some welding done due to a couple leaks and that made a noticeable difference. Alot smoother and a little quicker acceleration.
