EGR Valve

I heard or read somewhere. That the EGR valve can be removed and a plate placed over. Also, some device that lets the computer think that the EGR is still there.

I was informed that this can increase HP, but really rob your gas mileage. Any ideas on this?

It won't increase your hp, but the block off plate can be bought from GM, or get a 2k+ exhaust gasket, and the simulator is available through ZZ Performance.

Thanks for the response. No HP gain? Then what exactly is the point of doing this?

People do it because of other mods, like a turbo charger or HO intake manifold swap, things like that, because trying to include the EGR into those setups is more trouble than its worth.

sorry to post jack

but all 99-00 have the EGR right?? and do you know the part number for the block off plate?
I happen to just win a 99-00 2200 and right now I have a 98 2200
Would i have any problems with the computer or anything if I just block the EGR

No, 96-98 had the EGR, for the 2200, 98 and up were EGR-less

there are adavantages to EGR block offs... for example.. the VW 1.9 Tdi engine, I'd say average of once a week I replace an intake manifold on one of those engines... they carbon up so bad that the opening in the plenium will have about enough clearance that you can poke a pencil though it and thats about it, a finger wont fit... they carbon up so bad the car will not run, in germany they don't have that probem because they turn off the EGR system on German spec VW's but yeah its the EGR system that causes it.. WHen your adding exhaust gas to the intake track its gonna cause build up... so you wont gain power persay but in the long run you will loss less power through carbon build up in the intake
