i'm curious to know if just a replacement catalytic converter (such as magnaflow) with stock exhaust would change the tone and or volume of the car.

In my car it was just a bit louder, didn't change my tone, however.

..yep, mine was a bit bit lounder as well. Butt dyno told me picked up maybe a couple of horses along the way.
