3800 S/C swap
Monday, March 21, 2005 6:23 PM
I heard someone on here swapped a cavy engine with a 3800 S/C. I'm looking to do this also and need some tips on what to do. Do I need a new tranny? Obviously reinforced engine mounts. What else is involved. And about how much is it going to cost? Any help is much appreciated.

I've heard that they don't have manual tranny's for the 3800 S/C....is this true? Because my car has to stay a manual.

Thats right, they don't, your problem becomes finding a PCM that will work, or finding somebody that will modify one so that it will work.

Well since they don't have manual tranny's for the 3800 S/C I doubt I will do it. I really don't like driving auto. Are there any other swaps that are as good or better that I can do?

Just because they didn't come with one doesn't mean you can't put one on it. The 2.2 tranny bolts right up to the 3x00 series engines.

210 to the wheels, where did you hear that? I'm putting down 246 at the wheels and I'm running really rich.

Where the hell are you getting $10,000 from

Sure maybe if someone really wanted it done, had a buttload of money, and didn't want to actually do it themselves, then yeah I could see that number. The way I have my swap budgeted and figured out, its only going to cost a couple thousand. I payed about $700 for a whole car which has the motor, wiring harness, and pcm. Now figure in maybe $300-$400 for a getrag transmission, and about lets say $600 for the computer to be reflashed for the transmission and the wiring harness to be remade. Thats $1700 right there, and if you can fabricate and have lots of patience it can be done. But of course with me add about $1000 to that in extra performance parts.

I'm just saying the only way it would even come close to a 5-figure total would be to pay a shop to do everything.

^^ he's right, all the componets needed can be found at your local junkyard, hell they were even willing to give me the 3800 S/C and $400 cash in exhange for my eco, so its not very much money at all
