Hi everyone i'am new to the org and i have a few questions. I own a 2002 cavalier with a 2200 eng. and its an auto. I currently have an AEM cold air intake and i want to add more hp. what would i need to make 150+whp with just my engine. I know i want to add headers and exhaust but i know that wont be enough. need help.
Motor mounts, have a machine shop port and polish the head, 62 mm throttle body, 1.6 ratio rocker arms from Crane, Cavalier Connection underdrive pulley set, JBodyPerformance camshaft. Thats all I can think of for now.
75 shot of nitrous

Agreed.
Anything past the intake isn't going to help much with the motor. The cam is very low profile and the exhaust ports are tiny.
RSM Racing has a few engine performance mods; including head ported polished, intake manifold, and TB. There is also a super/turbo charger for 2200, don't know how good the kit is tho. And yes there also a nitrouskit for it.

The intake manifold is a joke.
The throttle body is very damn expensive and sadly unless I find another way, I may buy it in the future.
I suggest anyone with a 2200 port and polish their own head, I did it, it's a peice of cake if you do LOTS of reading on techniques.
The supercharger is also insanely expensive.
my car takes off really slow is there any thing i could do to fix that?
I would say all those things previously suggested, maybe an autotrans interceptor would help as well. With limited funds, it's hard to build up the 2200 to that extent. I would suggest the magnaflow exhaust and the OBX header. The pacesetter is nice also as far as headers go. Nitrous would get you to the mark but not constantly (if you value your J at all). Good luck.
what about the b&m shift plus is that good to?
150 whp = ~175-185 flywheel hp = built internals or boost
Does it go faster?
i have a b&m shift plus on my car, got a 2200, i makes it a little bit faster, and that's just because it shifts faster and harder, than you or i can, but i suggest you get one if you have auto
Autotrans,50/75 shot nos,exhust like u said/& msd dis2/emanage or safc u should be
able to get a low 15 maybe, maybe high 14's with suspenision setup to keep the car from dippin in the rear like wit stock
i think that if you do all the bolt ons- intake, tb, im, header, full exhaust, pulies, etc, as well as a port and polished head and a cam , you shouldnt be able to get those numbers

spend some money. and start reading the FAQ at the top. or read some of the info in this thread

I'd definately flush the old tranny fluid out and replace with synthetic fluids to start. Runs better, shifts better, and it takes less energy to move the drive gear work. Its cheap too!! Along with that..do like I did on my 98' Sunfire and get NGK Iridium Plugs with aftermarket wires from Magnecor or Accel. That'll give you a little grunt. I also run synthetic oil from redline oil and I have noticed a slight marginal gain from it as well as using the Water Wetter that they make too.

I did 140 whp on nitrous with my old motor with no problems another 10 wouldn't of killed it just would have needed a little more fuel

all intake bolt ons, full exhast and 75 shot nitro should IMO get you very close to 200WHP...
links to these things would help a little

i've heard of someone (don't remember who) increasing there power by bumping up the compression ratio with aftermarket piston. i don't know how much power this would make but couldn't hurt. anyone with more info on this.
New sig in the works
my new motor has 9:1 compression and it definately feels stronger from just that .5 point

i agree with Land Pirates Cavalier i have the 2200 engine and mine is ported and polished, stage 2 racing clutch, Injen Cold Air Intake, Flowmaster catback, and bosh plugs and wires,. and my car runs 15.2 in the quarter and that is with the system (3 12" hx2 power series quess how much that box weighs) in my opinion a good clutch and the bolt ons and for sure ported and polished and you will be rolling. i went to the track and stomped a supped up CRX and it helps if you know how to drive to you can't be shy with the red line you have to know where to shift and once you get that you can start speed shifting and that is how you get some good time.
Fast isn't always good, looks and sound is sometimes better
