What muffler to use for deeper sound..
Sunday, March 27, 2005 11:23 PM
Well i finally got my RK sport header on and i just have it clamped onto the stock exhaust just before the cat. And as i figured there is an exhaust leak (this is just temporary as i know i need a new exhaust) I am going to get a exhaust welded on this week hopefully, but i want to know what your opinion is on what muffler i should go with... I want a deep sounding one... and fairly quite too.... I currently have a Magna Flow one on now.. i don't mind the sound, but i wish it was deeper and a bit quieter... I have heard Flow Master mufflers are deep sounding ones.. but i don't know what one to go with... let me know what you think.

I'd say go with some resonators.

I had a Borla Boomer , with a purple hornie resonator , 2 1/4 piping with pacesetter header and high flow cat. Everyone said it sounded very deep and it sounded ALOT better than my "Type R" muffler.

go grab a cherry bomb glasspack (small round tube) from Canadian Tire (they're like 22bux) install before muffler, that will deepen the tone of the exhaust alot without hurting any performance)

Flowmasters are the worst flowing mufflers around, they sound alright, the 40series are loud as fawk. if your looking at quieter and deap Dynomax regular mufflers (eg superturbo's) are good, for the some other good and cheap ones there is the Thrush Turbo, will be louder than the superturbo but still sound good.

the sky is the limit when it comes to exhaust, it all depends on how much cash ya got and the personal preference.

Well looking at the Dynomax super turbo mufflers i am thinking i may go with that one... and see if they can just attach my tip that came on the Magna flow muffler onto the Dyno Max one

Go with a glasspack and a tip. Skip the muffler

Hey guys. I just got my DC Sports Race Header on a week or so ago, and it definitely needs to have some time spent on it to make the volume and tone behave again, now that I have no converter and my Pacesetter cat-back doesn't have a resonator. I bought a Dynomax Thrush glasspack for around 20" long from Summit, and I'm installing it tomorrow. That ought to take care of a majority the crap-tastic raspy sounds.

Now, just like Freebs, I'm lookin for the deepest-sounding muffler I can get. However, I need mine to be fairly loud still. Heard that the Borla Boomer series would do the trick. True? Any other suggestions? Preferably nothing from Magnaflow...

I dunno if u like the "fart can" style as some will call them.. I do and i have noticed the ones where teh body is carbon fiber. Usally produce a nice deep tone. i've heard em on a civic, cav, and a tiburon all seemed to be really deep and mild tone then when u got on it like most exhausts it would get loud. I'm not talking about the ebay ones, but they might do similar? the one my friend had on his Tiburon was Megan Racing.. QBE just posted a pic of his Megan Racing C/F muffler.(QBE's Megan Racing Muffler Pic). And after reading reviews of Megan Racing Catback it seems their Mufflers will produce a deep tone, So it might just be Megan Racing mufflers but the one on the cav and civic i'm not sure on brand.. But def look into Megan Racing if u don't mind the "fart can" look.

Megan Racing produces a very deep and somewhat aggressive tone. I should know, I have their cat-back on my car.

Sweet. I'm down to Borla Boomer or Megan. The fart can look is fine w/ me. In fact I prefer them sometimes. Certain cars I think look better w/ solid round muffler and a lip sticking out from under the bumper (Megan), others look better w/ oval-shaped mufflers with a tip that sticks out from it (Borla, Magnaflow, etc.). Plesae no flaming cuz I like the fart-can look

Borla Boomer on my old Cav. It was really big but sounded so nice, never heard anything sound deep like that one.

That is my OBX Type R Muffler. Sounds good too, if you want a sound clip man, let me know.

I miss the silver Cav.

That muffler was such an awsome sounding muff.

I have an HKS muffler on my car. I would get a resonator... but I like people with v8s telling me my car is one of the best sounding four cylinders they have heard.

I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

i have dynomax's dual muffler cat back system and after warming up it sounds very smooth and deep. I think two mufflers smooth. My friend's cav has just one and it is ok but not so deep and smooth. I know of another friend with dual and it has the same smooth deep sound, very classy.

The volume is righteous, but so many people say that Flowmaster products acctually flow very poorly and the overall tone is disgusting. Anyone concur with that?

Well for me,
The Flowmasters physically are too heavy for my liking.
Do some bunch curls with them things.

And yes, they flow less then the mullfers that are 'straight through' design.
Basically meaning they are glorified factory mufflers if you look at it that way.

Finally they don't pack them with the sound deadening material like the other companies. Its basically all metal. And we all know the consequenses of that with exhaust tones. Esp. on startups.

Hey jerseykid, I have a vid of your current car called "Dj_Exhuast_vid_SMALL_NEW" is that with the Borla or the OBX? I absolutely love the sound of that one, but you say both sound good, so which one sounds better. If the better one isn't the one in the vid, I'm gonna HAVE to get the other one, because the one in the vid sounds awesome anyway.

Thanks bud, I'd message you on aim, but I don't have it
