I have posted this question a couple times in the general forum but never got a answer, I thought I might have better luck in this one. I am currently getting my car ready for show this summer and have just started on the engine compartment. My exhaust manifold is rusted and sticks out horribly just like every other. I was wondering if they make a heat shield to cover this up on a 2.2 OHV out of a 2000 cavalier or will I have to custom make one? (I WILL get ceramic coated headers eventually, but I'm on a high school budget and I'm trying to find ways to save some money.)
go out and buy like a $100-$150 header... and get some high temp paint.... Or find a used one that it ceramic coated or something and it would be cheap as well and since its covered it will look some what shinny still.
or if that is to much $$ (as i understand the situation your in as i to am in grade 12) just get some high temp paint from an Auto store and pull off your heat shield sand it, and clean it all up and paint it with some chrome colour stuff... the cans are like $8 each.

SO before you suggest he paints his, he needs to get one first.
And i think he's gonna have to make one.

...why do you want a heat shield? Yank your old one off and leave it off, your stock header throws off very little heat, my friend...hell, they should make a heat shield for the ceramic header, my engine bay runs, like, 20 degrees hotter with my aftermarket piece.
Seriously, plus you'll shave a pound or two off the front end of your car..heheheh...

um he said he wanted the heat shield because his exhaust manifold is all rusted and ugly. He wants it to cover it up.
Just take it off and have it ceramic coated.

or make a stainless heatshield and polish it
Thanks for the help, I'll definately consider getting a header. I have another question about this though, painted headers usually rust really bad, really fast, If I buy one and sand it, primer it, and put some high temp paint on it, will it still rust? It seems pointless to even buy one if its going to rust no matter what because I would be in the exact same situation I'm in now. Same with painting my exhaust manifold.
if you are in it for looks (which it seems you are), nothing beats stainless steel, or ceramic coatings. The high temp paint shows rust eventually as well.

I run a LOUUUUD side exit exhaust, and painted it black with hi-temp caliper paint...been on 6 months, with no fading or rusting or blistering....sure, your header is gonna get hotter than the exhaust, but should hold up. Put on a couple of coats.

Alright, Thanks! and yes I'm mainly into show right now because I started with a base model cavy and an automatic, no Z24 engine, no 5 speed, so it seemed pointless to mess with the engine very much. I'm just looking to have more power then stock and to look really good.
High temp paint lasts about a year before it starts to fade, and if you paint your Exhaust system itself, your looking 6-8 months before road grime blasts it off in some places.

Umm right thats alot of bs paint usally lasts alot longer then that, but since your a tool and nobody likes you I'll just let everyone judge that for theirselves.
You dont need to sand or primer a header, that would be pointless I painted my stock OHV header with black hightemp and it has stayed for 2 years and still going.

anyone who paints a header on a show car is a tool, IMO lack of funds or not, a header ceramic coated is 200 bucks...we aren't talking a turbo charger cost... but like i said, thats my opinion. and i am not trying to show my car, want it to look nice, but as a daily driver, it isn't show worthy
ummm "twister"....WHY would i not sand my exhaust manifold before I painted it if its RUSTED!?...think about it.
Its not actully rusted, thats just how it is from factory you will not find any stock one that way. Yeah take an iron brush to it if you need your not gonna get much of it off...
