a/f gauge questions
Friday, March 25, 2005 4:30 PM
I juts got done installing my autometer a/f gauge today.

There are 4 wires:
One which goes to a switched power when the car is turned on
One which goes to 12 v
One for ground
One that hooks to the purple wire from the exhaust manifold.

I finally got my first two wires hooked up to what I thought was working, then all of a sudden the blue lighting on my gauges shut off.

I am going to double check wires, but i thought I had everything in there pretty good.

My next question is when i spliced into the purple wire, when i turned on the car i would get the lowest red led on the lean side to light up then shut off. Did anyone have problems extending the wire and getting it to work. Of course I would like to double check on an eco the correct purple wire is closer to the passenger side on the rear of the engine all the way at the bottom correct?

Ok all that said and done, I traced that wire back to the ecu. I then found like 3 or so purple wires, so I think I found the right wire, and now that its hooked up it bounces from lean to rich, normally bounces faster as i accelerate, but still does not steady, I expected some variation, but i didnt think it would bounce back and forth as much as it does.

The bouncing is completely normal, and it ocillates very quickly.

I couldn't find one as well. You could tap into the dimmer light wire on the cluster, but I don't know what wire it is.

its the 2nd wire in, but when i tried i lost control to dim my cluster it just did the gauge.

I ended up hooking both my red and white wires to the switch on my deck for now. I always have my radio with me so figured it works for now until i can figure out something else.

One thing i noticed though, when hooked up either to dimmer at full or my deck , its not near as bright as when its hooked straight to 12v so none of them must make 12v.
