I was just curious as to why everyone takes the 3400 over the 3100, what the benefits are in using the 3400, isnt it just a matter of compression. From what i understand there isnt much of a difference as far as hp is concerned. They are quite similiar, so why take the 3400 instead? Do the two engines have the same bolt pattern, or is one easier to install on the other. Im doing a swap next month either way, im just debating on whether i want the 3100 or the 3400, i found both engines at good prices, but my friend who is helping install it said that the 3100 would likely be easier to install, so is there a reason to take the 3400 instead? Ive looked around for information but havent found much, there isnt alot posted on the 3100 engine. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks
Yes but alot of people do the 3400, i was just wondering about the pros n cons of a 3100 cuz i havent heard much about it.
3400 is the same as the 3100, except it is 0.3 litres bigger. More HP and tq. So if you are going to do the work to put in a 60 degree V6, might aswell do the 3400./

The difference between the 3100 and the 3400 is in the heads and intake . The 3400 uses larger valves and runners in the heads . The runners in the intake are also larger . Needless to say the 3100 had smaller valves and runners until 2000 . From there the 2000+ 3100's shared the same intake and heads that the 3400 had been running .
Still people will want to use the 3400 over the 3100 for one simple principle DISPLACEMENT . If you are going to do a V6 swap using the 3100 or 3400 it makes more sense to go ahead and go with the bigger engine when you do it .

would it be safe to assume that the 0.3 L difference comes from a larger bore or stroke? and that the rest of the block is the same between the two?
