HEADER QUESTIONS
Wednesday, March 23, 2005 10:36 AM
ok i am gonna break down and buy a header for the lier. its a 2002 Z24.. meaning the 2.4L ecotec. my questions are as follows, and yes i have already read/posted in the GP thread:

what brand do you suggest?

is self installation rather easy, or more like an all day event?

dumb question... but is it on the front or rear of the engine?

anyone buy a header that they didnt like and i should stay away from?

anyone buy a header that they love and i should look into??

also.... anyone ever do a cams upgrade??

im not into the whole "rice" thing... i jsut want my car to sound good at a low rumble. so far i have a RKsport 2.4L intake and a Borla catback exhaust.

all help is VERY appreciated!!!!!!!!

there is no 2.4 ecotec. its not out yet. you must have a 2.4 DOHC. thats not the ecotec engine

first off, the 2.4 ecotec is not available yet. wont be for another year or two. you have either the 2.4 twin cam or the 2.2 ecotec. once you find out which one you have, then youll be able to look more.

i believe that both of them have the header in the rear of the engine (towards the firewall), and id recomment the pacesetter ceramic coated header for whichever engine you have

The Ecotec was available in 2002 on some of the Z24 models, primarily in Canada, but yeah, never as a 2.4L Eco.

Hard to get back to the matter at hand when we don't know exactly what engine you have....

Just set a day aside.
And get an extra set of hands to help.

You're have more trouble physically trying to get the thing in there rather than when it comes time to bolts things down and such.

Mind you, the factory header has some weight to it. Don't let the small size fool you.

As for tools, get a small almost palm size but strong ratchet and extensions.
here is little room to work back there.

Have a coupler ready for when you hack off the factory downpipe.
Unless you're going to a muffler/weld shop right away, you'll have to hanging pieces under your car.

Thinking...what else....

Just have all your favorite 4 letter words, in whatever languages you know ready.
You'll gonna be saying them quite often.

BTW pacesetter is a good header at a great price.... only have the 4-1 design though

Re: HEADER QUESTIONS

So are ppl saying that the ceramic pacesetter header is a really good header to go with for the 2.2 or the 2.4? Cause i'm in the same situation that blondieinaz24 is in. Also, what is a good cat to go with that. set up?

oh ive got the tool part WAY covered!!

thanks for the info!

and scooby, ive got the borla cat back and i enjoy it. it was a little over 500 dollars, but i didnt mind spending it. its a low low rumble, not too much of a noticable change in the sound of the car, but that is what i was going for

^^^ wtf?

whats the point of forums if you cant talk?

anyway
if you take off the header does all of the coolant leak out?

Talk all you want, but the original poster's is to ask about headers, doing that falls under one of the rules labeled "No post jacking".

If you want, start a thread in OT and call it "Chicks and Tools" and chat there The other forums are supposed to be strictly for staying on topic about those things posted.
