it would help if you listed what year car you have in your profile.
asuming you have a 3rd gen 95 on up cav. you cant chip your car. so dont bother looking. all these "Chips" out there are scams

Yeah as far as I know OBD2 can't be chipped. I know someone out there is working on it though..

there is such thing as flash reprogramming.. but I haven't the foggiest where to get it. try google. one thing I do know for sure is that it's EXPENSIVE with a capital E.

anything before 95 as 99redz24 said can be chipped I think.

i have a 98 cavalier with the 2200motor with automatic transmission. i found a "jet chips performance control module". it says "Each Jet Chips Performance Control Module we stock for your Chevy Cavalier features high quality standards. All our components for guaranteed performance and quality. " i found this at jeg.com

I hear a lot of conflicting things on this but as I've come to hear it...

if you just hand me those 200 bucks you just paid for that... you'd net about the same gains.

All I hear it is, is just a flashy box with lights on it. I'm sure there are good things.... but with the time it takes to install.. plus the price... plus the MAYBE few horses it gains.. for 200 bucks? you'd be better off getting something else with that 200 that would actually give you more performance.

someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

At our last MN JBO meet we were talking about performance chips. Im not sure what generation the other guys were referring to, so I dont know if you can get one for a 3rd gen, but they said all it does is override your IAT Sensor.

Basically makes your car thinks it getting colder, more dense air, so its burns more fuel. Supposedly a 15 to 20 hp gain, but I have no idea if thats accurate.

They make it look cool and sound cool, but you can do the same thing with a resistor you got for 99 cents at RadioShack.

It was this very conversation that prompted me to try making my variable IAT sensor, you may see my post in the performance forum.

Hey! you need to read the faq before posting. and if you say you did then you a freeakin liar. It's in the first post. OBDII = not chipable. All those Venom and jet thing are POS. CAr custom dynoed the jet module with an amazing 1hp gain. that's after 3-4 try.

Don't even think about anything that is call chip for the 3rd gen. only chipable is the 95 2.3 manual and 2.2. anything you'll see that will be a "chip" is SCAM. Even for the OBDI they have POS on ebay. those supposly "chip" that cost 20$ are POS. I'll do a write up in the next days about what a REAL chip is with picture.

So before you say anything stupoid as "I saw a jet module and they say it's good stuff on their site." you betetr read. If you're dumb enough to believe everything company says to sell then you're one dumb person.

this jet module is junk. complete and uder junk. unless you like prudy little lights in your car.

and this overriding your IAT sensor is even more uder crap. it makes you get crappy gas mileage and over time it can hurt your engine

Don't stick anything in your IAT (aka resistor), and yes, there is no chips as was stated a bunch of times.

keep in mind that the people selling those performance modules and the e-bay "chips" are nothing more than salesmen.

They want your money and if they can convince you that you can't live without this item you're going to buy it. You'll end up spending money for, in the case of the resistor, running rich, getting buildup, and eventually lessening the life of your engine. And in the case of the Jegs modules or the venom thing, if you really wanna throw your money away and waste your time installing something that really does nothing be my guest, I agree with everyone here on the fact that there are better things to get with your money.

But it is your money. 99redz24 has it right, it's just a waste.

I think we've torn this apart pretty well, any other comments?

I was just sayin how Ive heard it being done, and that's all a chip would do (for those generations that are chippable).

no, (with obd1) the real chips have the ability to do much more depending if you have an actual individual burn a new one, or go buy a hypertech/superchip. the options when burning your own are pretty detailed.....

what i'm tryin to say is.... for the real chips out there.... not the IAT sensor scams/jet module, they do more than just trick the IAT sensor.

real chips do not plug into IAT sensor or any other sensor. they plug into the computer

I never said they plugged into a senosr. I said they override the sensor.
