Preferred tools for head porting?

I just got my Standard Abrasives porting kit, and I wanna buy myself a nice die grinder/dremel etc. for working with. S.A seems to recommend against electric tools for the job even if you can regulate the RPMS.. wonder why??

At any rate, what are you home porters using for tools these days?

a reason not to use a dremel is you gotta have a steady hand most machine shops have machines that do it and they dont screw up

#1 tool I use is Patience...

Gotta have plenty of patience. Dont try to take too much material at once.

I used an electric die grinder with a regulator inline to control the speed. Worked great for me.

I use an air diegrinder. depending on the job and how much meat i'm taking out, i go from the full 30,000rpm to 10,000rpm for finishing (sanding etc).

with aluminum its good to have a can of WD-40 handy as it keeps the bits from getting clogged. be careful with aluminum, it doesnt take much pressure. just take your time (lots of it, for your first head look to spend around 8-40hrs depending on the extent you are going)

I use a good quality powerfull electric variable speed drill with carbide bits for the major porting work, and sandpaper flap wheels for the polishing. I have a dremel, but I only use it for minor touch ups, it would be way too slow to use it for the whole job.
