I am getting my 2004 Automatic Cavalier dyno tested this morning in a few hours. Anyone know what gear I am supposed to test it in? I would think 3rd but I think the governer kicks in in 3rd before 6200 RPM's but I never had it up that fast so i don't really know.

Anyone know what gear I should test this thing in? I have 3 pulls. Any info appreciated.

Generally, you want to test in the gear that is closest to a 1:1 ratio, which I believe is 3rd on the auto.

On the manual's, we hit the limiter in 4th so a lot of people will dyno in 3rd to avoid it. I believe that can skew the numbers a bit but there's not much that can be done about it.

thanks for the info, I will try 3rd on the first of 3 pulls, but if it cuts off before peak HP I will have to use 2nd on the last 2 pulls. Thanks again for info.

well in the 5spd, 4th gear is i think .98 ratio. and seeing as how 4th gear doesnt hit 108 until almost 6k rpm, i dont see why you couldnt use it to go on the dyno, but i guess your right. 3 gear you dont have to worry about it cutting back.....
