I need to know where the camsprocket should be positioned in relation to the crank sprocket on a 2.2l cavalier 1996 not an ecotech.. The camspocket does not have a timing mark on it and I can not seem to get it back in time and it turns over but it acts like there is no compression! If any one has any pictures of this to help me it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tom
These are the instructions out of my GM service manual
Timing chain and sprokets installation
1. Install the crankshaft sprocket
Make sure that the crankshaft sprocket is seated against the crankshaft
2. Install the timing chain and install the timing chain tensioner
3. Compress the timing chain tensioner spring
4. Insert cotter pin or nail into hole in the tensioner to retain the timing chain tensioner shoe.
5. Install the timing chain tensioner. Do not tighten the timing chain tensioner bolts.
6. Align the crankshaft timing marks with the tab on the timing chain tensioner.
7. Align the camshaft timing mark with the tab on th timing tensioner.
8. Install the camshaft sprocket and install the timing chain.
Tighten the timing chain tensioner bolts to 18lb ft
tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt to 96lb ft
Probably more than you needed but I hope it helps.
if you search I made a thread awhiel ago on how to swap eco cams and do cam timing, its step by step very detailed
