2200 swap

will a 2200 motor from a 2002 cavalier be a direct drop in for a 98 2200 motor or is modification required. posted in maintenance but didnt get a response.

Yeah, they are both exactly the same engine.

Yes they are, same bellhousing pattern, different mount locations.

what do you have to do to mount the getrag in place of the isuzu?


do you have to move the mount location on the frame rail? or can you bolt the isuzu mounts to the getrag?

why not just use the isuzu tranny anyways, I think its stronger than the getrag.

yeah i like the isuzu, but if i had a whole drivetrain i would like to use the getrag



yes your old trany would work on your newer 2200

Getrag is MUCH stronger than the isuzu. If you wanted to mount a getrag into a car originally equipped with an isuzu. You would have to remove the rear transmission mount bracket from the frame and weld a new on in. You would also have to drill a hole about an inch infront of the old hole on the front mount. Thats just mounting it, then the clutch, clutch master, slave cylinder, throwout bearing, shifter cables and shifter would also have to be replaced.
