hey i heard that the aftermarket upper and lower engine mounts actually help make torque for the car, has anyone actually noticed any differance? i dont have a aftermarket header on my car yet but im kind of short for money and upper and lower mounts seem reasonable for what i got to work with ONLY if they are worth it. I have a 2.4l engine.
They dont give you any more torque, they just apply the torque to the ground quicker and more controled. You will feel the engine shakes and shimmies more, which some people don't like. Mine tranfers the engine lope to the body and makes the dash shake, but that only happens at idle and very low speeds.
Does it make a difference in power? I think that's what you really want to know..
Doubt it. I have some, it's just a lot of rattling more than anything. Which I like.. but I'd go for other mods first.

me and peppers were about to order a lower motor mount for is car. should we avoid it and do something else, cause it sounds like it doesnt do @!#$.

dude wtf? those mounts are the best upgrade for the money...especially for 5speeds..it will really increase your engine response..will it give you 10 HP..no.....will you FEELl the differnce ...YES...i give it two thumbs up...youll notice the improvement mostly in your launch....i highly recommend them!
Got em both for my car...a little bit of a trade off..you'll feel a little more cabin vibration (esp. in dash and under your feet, passenger side too)...but if you are not concerned about stock noise level and feel, go with em. (I run a side-exit mufflerless exhaust right after the cat...hahah, I think I im losing my hearing sometimes!) You'll feel the torque difference for sure (i.e. less wheel hop on launches)...i did. hope this helps...
...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.
sweet! yeah stock noise and ride are no big deal. we are guttin peppers car from the front seats back LOL

no one dyno'd just the engine mounts. so anything you hear about them giving power is just hear say.
but they have other uses. you need them if you get boost or nitrous, and helps protect your aftermarket header from the engine rocking back and forth

I did not like my lower mount. I bought both the upper and lower from Karo, put both in, and HATED the vibration. It made me hate my car. It was embarrassing driving people around that were scared to ride in my car because they thought it was going to stall out. But then I explain to them that I installed new motor mounts and they're just like
.
People say it gets better over time........but I left mine in for a month (3,000 miles) and it was still as bad, if not worse than day 1. So I decided to leave the upper insert in, and replace the lower one with the stock one. I like it so much better.
I don't get the annoying earthquake while idleing, and yet the engine still doesn't roll as much as in stock form. Some other people say that this mod is REQUIRED if you want to have a header put on, well I have only the upper one in with a header, and have had no problems with the welds cracking.
So in conclusion, I would say no to the lower mount, and yes to the upper one. In my opinion, the shaking of having the lower one in is not worth what little, if any, performance gain from this mod.
i put in the upper and lower engine mount as well as the front and rear tranny mounts.
i noticed that there was a quicker response with acceleration.... more so when starting to. I also noticed when in 5th on the highway it was better accel as well.... these are all minor things.. but ass up.
as for the vibrations.. its not all that bad at all. i only find it bad if you are in a high gear at low speed and you are trying to accelerate. to be honest i don't even notice it anymore.
On another note... my girl loves it when i start the car. theres a little vibrate that she loves.
best bang for the buck
LOL

I have both mounts and they're awesome, if you can't stand a little shaking and rattling, chances are you shouldn't be driving a j-body to begin with
.
If you're just a showoff kid... forget it
if it's your mother car... forget it
If you like to race your car, it's a very good mod. for the track or strip definately a must i think.
Last year i put a 15,815 with just the motor mount and a custom intake, and that with a 2,276 60' (yeah i know it's bad, my foot was like lead that day
)
zouiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
-What's that noise?
-nutting, it's just my neighbour racing can (read civic).
mine is an automatic, and it only shakes at idle, other then that, i have no vibrations at all. i love both the mount and the insert. the shaking really isn't that bad, and if you don't like it, then you really shouldn't mod your car at all. and it is not that it is required to have it to prevent your aftermarket header from cracking, it is just a good thing to have. people have had them crack on them before because it shakes it to much and it puts to much stress on the header. and like 99redz24 said, it is needed for other things, not adding a bunch of horsepower or something.
If you don't like the vibrations, just get a really loud stereo and you won't even notice that you have the mounts in, I can't hear anything over the stereo

The only vibrations I get are from the hand massager in my steering wheel.
just get the mounts and charge people a couple of bucks for a massage
The vibrations in my 2000 z24 5 speed aren't that bad unless I'm in 5th and at like 2k rpm, then on a hill it might be kinda rough, so I just downshift, and it goes away no problem. Plus if you can match speed it won't be a jerky ride, and problem solved. My car definitely pulls harder in 2nd gear after putting in both upper and lower mounts. Upper didn't seem to help much, but added lower a week later and love having them both. Plus they make future mods more potent by helping to keep the power to the wheels.
i just put my ttr lower in and i love it, much more responsive, and there is a huge sound difference too, idk why, but there is. and only vibes a bit on take off. but does anyone know the torque spec of the two bolts? all data didnt have it at work so idk. and looking around on here i couldnt find it
horsepower is the force that determines at what speed you hit the wall, torque is the force that determines how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.
