Hey guys, in trying to wire in an AF guage last nite, I ran into some wiring issues with my o2 sensor. There are 4 wires running off the sensor to a harness, and the harness joins another four set of wires, kinda like this: ( "/" symbolizes the harness)
to pcm to o2
purple - - - - - - / - - - - - Black
? - - - - - - / - - - - - Grey
? - - - - - - / - - - - - White
? - - - - - - / - - - - - White
Anyhow, I was told that a purple wire was the one that I was gonna have to tap by a fellow jbody guy, and the black wire that led from the o2 correlated to a purple wire on the other side of the harness. Im just wondering if this was the appropriate wire to tap, and if not, which one was? Currently, the car sits in Stoichiometric and even under full load doesnt even budge out. When I go over train tracks, it seems as though the lites/led readouts on the guage kinda bounce as the car does on the train tracks, or rough bumps. I realize that Stoich (especially in such a stock form) is expected and proper, but I just wanna ensure that the right tap is on the right wire. I would have expected some movement on the guage, but have seen EXTREMELY little. Please help me out.
Cheers
any idea why it might not be?
no I technically tapped the black wire that correlates to the purple wire on the other side of the simple 4 wire harness
Would I be getting any signal at the guage if I had tapped into the wrong wire?
I did the same thing you did at first. You tapped after the connector right?
Follow the o2 sensor wires up, it will come to a harness, after the harness is a purple wire, tap that. That is your signal. If you tap it before the harness you won't get any readings.
hmmm ok, I'll try it in the next few days and let you guys know, thanks!
BTW whats the diff after the harness, it looked like it was just a plain clip on harness that didnt have anything outside of wire connectors - just an extension harness if you will, how does before or after the harness change the signal?
